BigJ, Summertime Dream is a good starting point as well as Gordons Gold and Gordon's Gold II. If there's a Reason on the album Endless Wire is also a good one. If You Could Read My Mind is one of my personal favorites and has a lot of feeling in the music and words. Good luck.

Welcome Jason
In my humble opinion Don Quixote is the best LP ever. It is just full of great songs. I'm sure you will really enjoy Christain Island. Most English fans like that song ( over to you SH....lol )

for similar stuff, listen to catman and get DQ. In terms of voice, Back here on Earth is a bit similar. Also get Summer side of life.

Hi Jason ! As another Brit. I am
so glad to welcome you to Gordland here on
the 'net.
Don Quixote is probably my fave album too
but dont stop there. Treat yourself to the
Songbook box set and then buy each GL LP/cd
that you can find! You will not be disappointed, I swear it.
As for CHRISTIAN ISLAND ... Ron, knows me so
well! (LOL). This is the song that can
cure all ills for me. It is MY song. (Gord
wrote it for me, you know )
Jason, I envy you. You have the joy, the
bliss of discovering the magical music of
Lightfoot!
Report back soon.
BTW where abouts in England are you?

Good Luck Jason
If you can't find DQ in the record shops. cdplus.com has the cd for $8.99 Canadian, thats around 4 pound, really great value.
SH, I didn't know you purchased Christain Island, I hope you had to pay the Indians heaps, .
Keep Smiling Ron

Jason,
Welcome aboard! Here's another vote for Don Quixote. But at the same time pick up A Painter Passing Through to get the flavor of where his voice is today. Then pick up each and every CD you can afford, they're all good for something. And don't forget to go see him live as soon as you can arrange it. It's worth the trip$.

BigJ, I prefer earlier Lightfoot efforts. If You Could Read My Mind is a beautiful song on a beautiful disc, and all of Don Quixote is good, too. In fact, you can't really go wrong with Gord, but please don't stop listening to him until you have heard "The Way I Feel". Lots of fine songs from early in GL's career. For something even a little farther back, don't miss "Lightfoot!". Lots of great songs and Gord's voice is featured moreso thqan on any other disc, IMHO.
My personal favorites from these two early discs are Canadian Railroad Trilogy ( a "super" song), Song for a Winter's Night, Softly, Early Mornin' Rain, Sixteen Miles, and I'm not Sayin'. But they are all just grand . Happy listening!

I looked at these last two postings on the thread and I had to wonder...given the events of that particular day,how could anyone have felt like posting a message or for that matter, doing anything? Go figure.
