I had a listen to this 2 times in a row yesterday and i few things struck me. First, why does an album with such a happy sounding title make me depressed?. Don't get me wrong, i love the songs, and most of them make me feel sad. The 2 most popular ones that people know (CJ and SSOL) are the most upbeat (along with redwood hill), but the rest of the album has despair written on it. Has anyone noticed this?. I think it's the sound of his voice and the backing to it.
It's funny how I like the album so much even though I feel down after listening to it. Anyone else noticed this?. COTS, however, is the opposite for me. Oh well, some people are touched differently. It's got this unique sound to it.

Hey Joveski,
Summer Side Of Life is my absolute favorite Gord album. You're right, it is a collection of pensive songs - that's probably why I like it so much. I find that melancholy can sometimes be very comforting, like an old familiar friend. I don't feel your despair when listening to this CD; but instead, a wistful feeling that is very positive and calming.

Joveski, perhaps it's not the album but intead is the act of writing a dissertation (a very depressing endeavor indeed). Here's a prescription. Take as needed and call me in the morn. This should do the trick:
Wherefore & Why
Walls
Mountains & Marian
Spin
Old Dan's Records
Highway Songs
Alberta Bound
High & Dry
Bend In The Water
Summertime Dream
Hangdog Hotel Room
Salute (A Lot More Livin To Do)
Why Should I Feel Blue
Always On The Bright Side
I'll Be Alright

Summer Side of life is my favorite Gord Album
Yet Gord never seems to play much of it in concert these days. Many of the songs I guess don't sound good on stage and many of these songs aren't what he is trying to do these days up on stage.
SSOL flows smoothly and I'd agree to a certain extent about it being a sad kind of album, but isn't this true of many of Gord's songs? This album tells a story of sorts.
A little about Vietnam, and alot about love, alot.
regards

Mr. Joveski,
Blackberry wine is contraindicated. Alcohol, in combination with some songs (such as Welcome To Try), may cause a relapse. I have been sworn to the Hippocritic Oath therefore I must advise you to remain stone cold sober.
Hhhhope you're fleeling bitter (hiccup)
