As some of you remember, Jenney negotiated with the Delta Chelsea and booked a block of rooms for our previous "Conventions" in Toronto. Due to time constraints, she isn't taking on that task this year, but I am looking into it in order to try and secure a meeting room, like we used for our after concert parties last year. In the past, with a block of rooms, the Delta has thrown in the use of the meeting room at no cost - which is a really cool thing to happen since these meeting rooms aren't cheap.

I have been quoted $129 Canadian for single/double occupancy. I've checked their web site and this is about $10 less then their listed price for that time frame. I also checked Orbitz and the "group rate" is significantly less than what they had to offer. $129 Canadian currently translates to approximately $115 American.

If you have any interest in booking your reservations as part of a block of rooms, please email me directly at janice.ross@cox.net
(if you have already made your reservations for a Delta Room and want to change your reservation, I'm sure it could be done - actually, if you have already booked your room and don't mind sharing the information, I'd be interested in knowing what price you were quoted - just for continuing negotiating purposes). If there isn't enough interest, I won't pursue this avenue and will look in another direction for gathering space.

I would also like to take this opportunity to ask that you email me at the above address if you have any interest in "formalized" gatherings. Last year we had after-concert parties that were a blast and we had a group dinner on Saturday prior to the concert that was wonderful. We will be planning similar gatherings this year, plus a few more fun things (more details to follow). For planning purposes, let me know when you plan on arriving, departing and if you are interested in the dinner on Saturday. If you are planning on dinner - I'll need to know the number in your party for reservation planning. Right now, all of this is in the working stage, so even if you just think you might be coming, but aren't sure yet, let me know.

Please forward this information to any Lighthead you know who may not read the NG or Corfid.

Thanks!

Janice

Dear Janice,

This is a simple question, NG or Corfid? Can you tell me what is NG? There may be something here about our beloved poet on the Computer that I dont know about. And then again maybe I do.

Your Lighthead friend, Jesse-Joe.

Janice,

I will follow up with an email but just for 'general information' purposes could you tell me: how does the Delta Chelsea compare, say on a scale of 1 - 10, with other hotels in the area ? Is it like a Hilton or a Motel 6 ? Just want to compare since we have a 'free night' we can use but not at the DC. Thanks for taking this on !

jj,

NG is the newsgroup, an alternative to corfid. I tried it years back but never warmed up to it.

The Delta is leaps ahead of most hotels in the area. It has all amenities and is only a 7-10 minute walk to Massey and The Eaton Centre. It's at the corner of Yonge and Gerrard.
a virtual tour and all info is here:

We've used the Delta now for several years, and almost always found it to be a great place to go. Char and I took a couple of days during one of my visits to Toronto to check out other hotels (I'd done it by phone, but it's nicer to look at the other places in person), and still came out believing the Delta to be the best bet. I've stayed at a couple of others in the area, and looked at a few others, and still go back to the Delta. The rooms are larger, several places to eat or drink, and a short walk to Massey Hall. It's a very busy, city hotel with lots of tour groups using it too. It's more along the scale of a Sheraton or Hilton than a Motel 6 or something. If you go to their web site, delta.com, you can take a tour of the Delta Chelsea.

yes - Jenney and I hauled our butts through several establishments checking on rooms etc. LOL!!
oh my!!!

The Delta wins out on every level...heck - even Lightfoot had his family soiree there after a concert in May 2005 !
I'm SURE that's why he didn't attend the surprise birthday party!
lol

A little clarification - the Delta Group rate was less than Orbitz.

Bill, looks like your questions were answered, but I'll chime in and say the Delta Chelsea is really a good place - close to Massey Hall, several eateries and places to get a drink right on sight, indoor pool and the rooms are large and comfortable... It's an older hotel, but I find it to have historical charm and an old elegance. If you require modern and new - it's probably not the place for you.
