Does anyone have any information about The Edmund Fitgerald movie. It seems like a "phantom movie" that will never happen. You would think that something would be released that lets people know of it's progress. I've heard nothing.

While these don't answer your question, I found these and Gord is mentioned and quoted:

Filmmakers in Port Huron for help with Edmund Fitzgerald Project

by Chris Sebastian
Port Huron Times Herald
Saturday September 13, 2003

A native Michigander hopes movie fans haven't quenched their thirst for maritime tragedy films. Chris Chabot, an independent screen writer in California, has written a movie about the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald, which sank during a November 10, 1975 storm on Lake Superior. All 29 crew members perished.

Chabot today will join production company Venture films Ltd. of London and meet in Port Huron with local captains of several ships that experienced the same Lake Superior storm. The filmmakers hope to gain more background on the freighter's sinking.

The group will meet at Cap'n Jim's Gallery owned by Port Huron artists Jim Clary. Clary in 1995 created a series of paintings of the Fitzgerald based on underwater camera pictures from DeepQuest Exploration.

Growing up in White Pine, Chabot said he remembers well the sinking and thinks it would make a great film. "I wrote the script back in 1993 and shopped it around the studios," Chabot, 43 said. Movie companies had been hesitant to drop money on the project. Potential deals have come and gone in the past, Chabot said, but he said he'll have between $3 million and $10 million budget for the film.

Chabot credits the recent success of movies such as The Perfect Storm and Titanic with him getting the chance to make the film. "At the time (critics) thought both of them were going to bomb," he said. But both movies proved audiences enjoy shipping and boating films, he said.

The connection isn't lost on Clary. "The Fitzgerald is the Titanic of the Great Lakes," he said. The Fitzgerald films wouldn't be a documentary, Chabot said, it would follow a plot line. Possible plots could include a real time look at the last two hours before the ship sank.
