Please, if anyone hears the airdate for the PBS special in the Virginia area (Roanoke), post it here. I would hate to miss such a great show. That PBS station doesn't have a website.

Yes it does: www.wbra.org .

I just posted this at the Usenet newsgroup, and will cross-post it here. (Florian, perhaps you might want to open a new discussion topic with ALL of the previous posts about the PBS special broadcasts. They are sprinkled in at least three different topics. I think this will be an important topic in the weeks to come).
-------Posted at alt.music.lightfoot-------------------------------
The thing to understand is that each PBS station is totally independent; they can decide what programming they will air and when they will air it. Although the special was targeted for the December pledge drives, stations may show it whenever they chose, and they don't have to show it at all. PBS makes a large number of specials and each station decides what will work best in their market.

As this "Viewer Services Representative" says (not included here), their programming department makes those decisions, and they are influenced by viewer input. If Lightfoot fans sit back and mope, and don't speak up, the stations won't know we are out here. If you go to the PBS web site (at http://pbs.org ), you can look up your local PBS station(s) - by zip code or by state. You will find their web site address, their e-mail address, their phone and fax numbers, and their snail-mail address.

So, if you want to see it on your local PBS station, it can't hurt to ask about it!

PS: So far, I know about two stations broadcasting it. WMHT in Schenectady, NY and KNPB in Reno, NV where it was taped. When I get more information (most stations have not yet finalized their December schedule), I will post it at my web site.

I wrote to WETA/Arlington VA/Channel 26 and WVPT/Staunton-Harrisonburg VA/Channel 51 to ask if they were planning to run the Reno special. So far WVPT has responded:
"Yes-GORDON LIGHTFOOT: Live in Reno will air Friday, December 8, after 11:00 p.m. The broadcast time is tentative as we will be pledging "live" that night, so it could start a bit earlier or later. Gordon sure looks his age BUT his voice hasn't changed. ENJOY." Wanda Zimmerman, Director of Programming

Gotta go brush up on my VCR taping!

I checked my local PBS stations here in New Orleans, and neither one is going to air the special. Needless to say I'm very disappionted. I can only hope they release it on video, or dvd.

There definitely will be a video, and you can get one even if your local station doesn't air the special simply by joining one of the "smarter" stations that does air it. As I said earlier in this thread, I will post information about PBS broadcasts at my web site. I'm sure there will be lots of "enLIGHTened" stations to choose from.

I have been in contact with a representative of my local PBS station. She says she might be able to get me a copy of the show if I can ive her the name of the special. So if anyone knows what they're calling it I would be grateful. Thank you for the reply Val.
