Gord and Laurel, 1990
did I mention what a good year this was?
John,
it is with some trepidation I post this, but the son got me a scanner/printer and the Summertime Dream CD as a late bday present and kinda nagged me into it. I was hesitating...oh, by the way, notice that GL is clean shaven smoooooth baby.
(I felt the need to clarify the date.)

Dear LSH you have to link your picture to a website before you can post it. You may have to send it to Mr. johnfowles for editing and linkage...

So sorry Laurel but you only get 2 out of 10 for that failure. If you reread my tutorial
you should notice the first step I pointed out was:-
"1.locate a picture already on a web site somewhere"
Unfortunately as the Stationmster pointed out you have tried to link to the picture file where you last put it
i.e.
C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Owner/Desktop/GL%26L.jpg
and then found that corfid cannot link to your hard drive!
I suspect that you tried to verify the address as I had advised by pasting that address into your browser's address bar and as the browser knows where your hard drive is the picture no doubt appeared.
BUT to be a kosher web site the address therefore should start with the internet linking protocol "http"
Agreed I did go on to say under item 3
"Or start your own free web site (suggestions and guide to follow)"
and this I have yet to write up but as an interim solution:-
Go to Sidney Freedmen's MSN group site:-
TheHomePageOfGordonLightfoot at:-
TheHomePageOfGordonLightfoot@groups.msn.com
sign-in to MSN Passport sign up if you haven't already
(hotmail e-mail users who also use MSN Messenger as I do will already have such a passport)
click on "pictures" then "add a picture"
at some point you will be asked if you want to "Install the MSN Photo Upload Control
This will take approximately 3 to 4 minutes with a 56-Kbps modem"
(if you don't you can upload one pic at a time it says)
create your own album
click "add photos"
In the left column you will see the contents of your computer
find the file you wish to upload
TIP have your pic on a floppy (that way I found it was far easier to locate)
click on the filename the pic should then appear in the main area, with a link under it "click to edit title"(so future visitors can see what or who it is)
click the "upload now" link in the upper right corner and when you are returned to your album page left click on the pic referring to your newly uploaded pic
to see it full sized in all its glory
then right click and select properties to see the pics address like this example
highlight and copy this address.
In that example the address contained a group of extraneuos numbers after the filename which really ended at "jpg" so I used the shorter version (as far as jpg only, first double checking that it worked by pasting it into a browser address box.Note that when the other day I tried to use a pic's address obtained that way on corfid the pic did not appear possibly because the URL was too long. So if using a long address seems to be causing that to happen create a nice short URL by going to:-
http://www.notlong/com
pasting the long URL in the upper box and think up and enter a nice easy name in front of where it says notlong.
then go back to corfid and paste the "notlong" address in between the [img] and [/img] tags
Here is the little screenshot of the CTV video that I displayed in one of the Peterborough topics earlier and have uploaded to that MSN group site
I do hope that is clear to anyone else who has trouble emulating Laurel!!
But as the stationmaster has so amply demonstrated once you get the hang of it you can have lots of fun choosing both
fixed and animated pics to display without damaging your computer or your health

It is a great picture. I cut and pasted the URL into my browser to take a look at it. More than one way to skin a cat.

Maybe I'm stupid, maybe it's just my sinus headache from hell making me crabby, but I need this clarified. Upper box? do you mean the address bar? If not, I don't see an upper box at the site, and if I paste in the address bar, over the "not long" address, it will take me to my pic, but then I don't have the "not long" part to type my pic name in front of...am I making any sense whatsoever?
I need some freakin HELP, maybe Char can explain it to me...lol

SH**! They're rolling back in my head now. I mean, really...I'm beyond words to explain my frustration Violet, I kid you not. I'm glad I'm not the only one who had trouble with this. Misery loves company girl, sorry! It's probably something easy, and I'm just not seeing it. OBVIOUSLY. I'm ready to say screw the pic, but now it's like this thing I can't let go of til I know how to do...sorry. just venting now. If it wasn't a "school night", I'd be having a drink!

Does the kid raising his hand mean you can help? Or are you just celebrating the fact that I want a drink?
If you can help, I'd appreciate it.

Sorry LSH but I don't know how to link a file yet. Well, I guess I never tried! All of the pics and animations I have been using are already linked to websites. I am just doing a little "copy/paste". And yes, I do think a drink is in order here...

Hey, don't sweat the small stuff, Laurel! The picture is great (I used the same method as Violet to view said picture). Personally, I prefer a link or a URL. No disrespect to John or his faithful students, but all the graphics sometimes make the threads load slowly and force you to have to scroll left to right to read the posts. Plus, lets face it, most of the time once you've seen the picture, you really don't have a need to have to see it and scroll by it time after time just to be able to read new posts to a given thread. I guess I prefer to see the pictures I choose to look at and only as often as I prefer. That said, I don't mean to discourage anyone from posting pictures - just offering a different perspective.

Not sure what the main problem is. I only suggested the "notlong" alternative in case as here all else fails.
I had no trouble making a not long URL
this is an actual screenshot of the notlong site:-
giving a "notlong" URL link for this by now famous picture after all that palaver http://www.laurel.notlong.com
OK yes I know it's easy when you know how
But that applies to virtually every computer program(me) and/or operation doesn't it??

(edited to show a revised notlong URL my original http://www.laurel.notlong.com
as luck would have it was actually already taken for a web page of a Dr Laurel!!!)

Having got this far I realised on more mature reflection your scanner scan is terribly pale
(as may well have been your original photo of course) but you should have been able to improve things by adjusting the scanning settings.
scope for further experimentation there Laurel!!! So I have taken the liberty of fettling it with My MGI Photosuite program to produce this more respectable version
Hope you like it
