Frank V,

Are you reading my mind again / still?

Since I haven't been to a Lightfoot concert
since 1988 I don't know either!! But I'd love to know because I keep hearing that he's
seems happier and more relaxed these days.
I suspect this is Elizabeth's doing! (thank
you, Mrs. Lightfoot! I could kiss you for it!)

Ok, everyone, please give Frank V and I the goods on this one.

At the concert I went to in 2002 he talked about where he got the idea for some songs or why he wrote them in the 1st place. Before he sang a Bob Dylan song he pretended that he couldn't recall who Bob Dylan was when he said it was written by some guy named Bob. (It was probobly "Ring Them Bells". It's been the B! I'm out of time and I'll catch ya on the flipside of Sundown!

Blackberry Wine is "one" of My Wife's favorites, every time I think of this song,I remember the story Gord told prior to doing it. Just for the heck of it,...anyone else want to tell what the little ol' lady said..... Iron...tis a sin to be sobre too long...

I recall in '95 and '96 he would give some passing mention to "shrink alley" in Toronto.
Apparently Gord has been undergoing analysis for some time, at least up to the mid-90's and would talk about all the shrinks who had offices on a particular street in Toronto.
He also made reference more than once to playing golf with his ex-brother-in-law.

Well,I guess no one else wants to give it a go, so here's the rest of the story, just so you know...Gord told this neat little story about this little o'l lady I think front row,she told gord she liked what he was doing...but.."Could You Pick it Up a Little." Then He(They) did Blackberry Wine.Every time I hear or think of that song I remember this story. You had to be there to hear how He said Could you pick it up a little. I still get a laugh out of it.

What a hoot! Maybe the little old lady was up past her bedtime? "The Pony Man" would have put her completely under <g>

I remember at one of the more recent concerts, he quoted some lyrics that I think he wrote, something about a girl from Athabaska. Pretty funny stuff. Too bad I don't remember them.
He also told the No Hotel story before performing the song.
At Massey Hall in 2001, there were several people who came in after the concert had started. He said something like, "Come into my house" and beckoned them down the aisle. I'm not positive about the exact phrasing on this, either, but it was something like that.
At several concerts I've attended, he told the story about how Song For A Winters Night was written in Cleveland during a summer thunderstorm.
Here's the most memorable one, though. In Keene, New Hampshire, I believe it was March 2000, during a very silent break between songs, some woman way up in the balcony said, in a very soft voice, "I love you, Gordon." I mean, she didn't scream it or anything. She said it quite softly. The acoustics in there were amazing, and her voice went booming through the auditorium like she'd been speaking into a microphone. Gord looked up into the balcony, blushed a little, then proceeded to tell a story about how he'd been attending Raptor basketball games. One night Mugsy Booges (sp?), who only stood about 5'3", stole the basketball, ran the length of the court and dunked the ball. Some fan yelled, "I love you, Mugsy!"
I've often wondered if the woman who so quietly professed her love of Gord, in front of over 2000 fans, felt a little bit of embarassment. I don't think she had any idea her voice would carry so well.

In one concert he spoke of having to take some guy to the ER because he had a bad ear ache. The Dr. pulled out a chunk of ear wax the size of a cigarette butt.
