Hello folks. J.P. Cormier has released "The Long River: A Personal Tribute to Gordon Lightfoot". You can learn more about it at www.jp-cormier.com
The album is now available through his secure on-line store found at the site. Sound clips can be heard in the press kit as well as the store.
Great forum and fantastic web site you have here. We actually used it in preparing the liner notes for this album. The cross referenced track listing to album to lyric is unmatched on the web.
Cheers,
Christine

HI Christine,
- it will be a great pleasure to see J.P. Cormier at Hugh's Room in Toronto this Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings at the Lightfoot tribute shows - "The Way We Feel" produced by Aengus Finnan and Jory Nash. I'll be attending all 3 nights. Some others from this message board will also be in attendance.
I hope J.P. has some "CD"s for sale those nights!
It would be fabulous if Lightfoot himself showed up again like he did last year and was able to stay for the whole evening of entertainment. It really is a show of unparalleled talent.
thanks for acknowledging the corfid website!

I would really like to see J.P in concert but Saskatchewan is about 3000 miles from Toronto, so that's outta the question. I will, though, but the album. I mentioned before i sent a e-mail to J.P about a week ago.

congrats on a wonderful piece of work, stunning (and i haven't even fully digested all the tracks but i just finished hanging on every one of JP's passionate words in the CD booklet)
i trekked to the city last night and as i entered Hugh's Room i got a pleasant nod and hi as i walked in... i belatedly realized it was JP (with a shorter haircut than i'd seen in the past)
i'm certain his versions of HFTF, CRT and especially his personal tribute tune impressed everyone (he'd appeared a bit nervous before going on) ...can't blame him, GL was there in person, lol... he made me nervous also 'cos initially he was seated directly in front of me and about 6 other stragglers (lol) in the dark, cheap seats/stools (humble as can be, just like JP articulated for us all in his wonderful linear notes)
btw, Gord looked really healthy and also content that most folks were letting him have his peace and take in the tribute artist, i'm so glad he stayed for the tribute 'anchor man', JP
i was just thinking that within the last 24 hours i will have had the pleasure of listening (i love new arrangements of almost any sort) to about 30 new GL covers ...of which a whopping 18 are by JP...wish all artist's CDs had that many tracks
oh, a great line by JP on stage last night (i'm sure our wordsmiths, char and jenney will review the gig fully asap)... JP says (paraphrasing):
"yeah, being a songwriter is great...i get $20 for each of these tribute CD's i sell ...and Gord get's $25 of it"
LOL
IMO, any Lightfoot fan really should order this gem
(know i know why those plastic, thin boxes are called 'jewel' cases, eh)
cheers

Christine, another great site is www.lightfoot.ca , no discussion forum but unrivaled depth of GL info!
i was hoping JP might perform on the ECMA's next month and show some of his fine musicianship (which i don't think the 3 tunes he chose to play at Hugh's Room really fully showcased) and wonderful vocals
i see Mad Violet is playing though, s/b fun!
btw, i love the CORMIER! album cover parody
best of luck going forward, JP & co
ps) i see several JP topics here (but with no discussion to speak of really) but none at the GL newsgroup ...i would definitely call this cherished release "NEWS" worthy!, lol
