Wrong? Nope, not in my mind! I get stuck on songs quite often and just keep hitting the repeat button. I was stuck on Can't Depend on Love for awhile, and this week I seem to be stuck on Never Say Trust Me and Someone to Believe In.
I'll put a cd in and leave it in for months at a time, playing just that one in my car, and perhaps another one at home. Just seems like a way of life to me!

I do that all the time too, Iron, and the guitar definitely has something to do with it. Sometimes it hits me after I've listened to a song many times. I'll notice a nice guitar part, something I want to learn. I have an entire lists of 'songs I want to learn'. I play a song on WinAmp and hit repeat and play it over and over and over, until my teenage son can't take it anymore.
I find when I'm doing this, I block everything out, only listening to the guitar part. DQ was one of those songs where I was trying to figure out what the heck Red Shea was doing. I've seen Gord do DQ in concert several times, and noticed Terry capoed on the second fret, but I couldn't get it to work with Red's version of the lead. Then one day it just hit me that Red played it in a G progression instead of A, so I capoed it up to the 4th fret and it worked. I don't know if Red actually capoed it or not, but it sure sounds like he did.
The same thing happened years ago on If You Could Read My Mind. I remember wanting to learn that song back when I was a teenager, but could never figure out the G to Gadd9 switch. About 7 years ago, I was sitting in my living room in the dark with a few candles burning, playing this song over and over. I picked up my guitar and thought, "Okay. This isn't that hard," and figured it out in a split second. Weird how that happens. It happens two ways with me, either spur of the moment, or over the course of months, where the song just kind of evolves.
So, you see, if there's something wrong with you, then a bunch of us are suffering from the same affliction, and I have a feeling there is no cure!

Ever since I got all of his LP's last year,my head's been stuck on "Cotton Jenny" most of the time. Other times it's "Seven Island Suite" or "Triangle" or,you guessed it,"The Pony Man". There's others but those are the most frequent. Much as I love Gord's music I have to say this about songs stuck in the mind.....YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! It's been the B! Catch ya on the flipside of Sundown!

Cathy ,and All
Thanks,I feel much better knowing there are other's with this affliction. My jeep has a CD player, but my p-up just has a cassete,so the next time someone picks up one of my Gord tapes with the same song entirely repeated on both sides with the same song and gives me that"look",I won't feel so strange..
Cathy, might you be the one to do the the recent Gord tribute V.M.told us about? We really wanted to make it but it just didn't work out, next time we'll try again...Anyway,I sure can relate to the guitar thing.I think that I might be one of the major reasons Wayne Francis created His Gord site,,,He probably got sick of me bugging Him..prior to Waynes site and my Wifegetting into this internet stuff,Ihad no access to Gord's guitar work.Things have changed,Thank You Hon,and Thank You Wayne..Over the past few years we have aquired almost all of Gord's gifts on CD's that are available and though I've listened to the new to me ones, perhaps even kinda glancing, there are so many,,,,I do the exact same as you mentioned, old and knew alike, even some of the same ones you mentioned.I'll hear a part or peice sometimes without even really listening, old or knew, and it just snatches my brain and I think "hey, thats Doable, put that on the list....Hope I live to be 300 or so..What is winamp?Isthat one of those electronic ears that tells you what your hearing?I've seen the ads but never talked to anyone that has one.I can also relate to the learning process you described,,,,I sometimes set my o'l faithfull #2 down a'hhh unsoftly,,,I think thats where some of these lines by my eyes originate,,,and sometimes go back later and itjust works,,,and sometimes it don't...but thats OK to...Just gotta do it the most,Ya know..
Thank you all
Iron

Yes, Iron, that would be me. I'm the one in the tribute band, along with Ed Mullen, Derek Kidd and Matt Carl. We did two shows in April, one Lightfoot tribute show, and a favorite singer/songwriter show, where we sang the songs of several artists. That turned into an old time sing-along and was a lot of fun.
WinAmp is the software I use on my PC to listen to mp3s and CDs. Most computers come with Windows Media Player, but I prefer either WinAmp Or Musicmatch Jukebox. You can download WinAmp from http://www.winamp.com
WinAmp does have a nice pluggin that allows you to slow a song down without changing the pitch, but to tell you the truth, I never use it. I suppose it's good if you're trying to learn a difficult guitar part.
Oh, yeah, I've visited the lyrics and chords section of Wayne's site many times. It's really a great resource.
We've posted a few of the songs that we did at Caffe Lena on my website at http://www.cathycowette.com and will probably be adding a few more once they are mixed.
I believe Ed Mullen has posted some on his site, too, at http://www.edmullen.net
Ed also has a bunch of pictures posted.
