After reading the lyrics on this site.
I've discovered I've been mistaking them for years!
ie "I've got to see you my old friend" instead of "old flame" (Carefree Highway).
There is no "sun going down" on (Summer side of life).
Have you come across any?
Frank.

Sandyo,
It is my "old flame."
I always thought it was "old friend."LOL.
Sundown was never issued with a lyric sheet.

I've always heard "my old flame" too. Could it be that on one of the repetitions he said "my old friend"? I could swear I've heard "friend" too, but I know for sure I've heard "flame."

According to the 'Gordon Lightfoot Deluxe Anthology' (sheet music and lyrics) it's "Flame". No mention of Friend but I must admit, until now I thought it was friend.

I've only ever heard "flame". I love the way Gord uses old fashioned words like "flame",
"turtle dove" and "flying machine". It's one of my favorite things about him. He takes me back on a journey through time.

Oh! More "mistaken lyrics".
This is riduculous. I often hear the lyrics
incorrectly to one of my favorites. And it's really stupid of me. Beyond stupid.
To "Forgive Me Lord"
"I've been caught in the act"
but sometimes I hear:
"I'm a comedy act" or "I'm an economy act",
neither of which could be farther from the truth. I do not understand why this happens
and I really get annoyed when I do that.
