130 miles...wow!
simmer down cathy, I lived my life in the city, my husband is nature boy and here I am. I like the country, it is comforting. My husband always tells me nature stories, he could not survive in the city, he could but, it would not be pretty. He is in his nature in the country. I like it like that...life is good. My husband had to wait half an hour the other day to let a herd of Canadian geese cross the road. Nature has its' limits if I had an indefinite amount of time and resources I could hang with nature. I guess if you twist my arm I must say I prefer the frogs and nature to the city, but, don't tell my city friends, ok. The city has its' purpose too.

Calendar is pretty unique Iron. I like Farewell to Annebelle.

Paradise...wow. You are so lucky.
I can live with the frogs and last night I had to toads running around in front of my garage as I put out the dogs. Jupiter usually catches them and holds them in her mouth. Strange she never hurts them and always ends up sick from the experience... it just goes to show, I don't know what, dogs are strange????????

funny you mention the dogs, which happens to rhyme with frogs ...

we have an abundance of tree frogs in the area. mostly Cope's and one or two Cope's Grey. we find them climbing up the house often. sometimes they get onto the storm door and leave their footpad prints up and down it.

what's really great is when toads get into the gutter downspouts. their song resinates through the entire house.

frogs secrete a chemical such that dogs will foam at the mouth if they happen to pick one up and play with it. one or two times and the dogs know better than to set a frog in their jaws. it's pretty much harmless, but i'm sure the dogs will say different .

anyway,

we continue our search for the Great Blue Bullfrog.

and to violet .... such a colour can only be found in flowers.

in the Spring, we have thousands of Spring Peepers on the farm. and yes they produce the most noise i have ever had the opportunity to go to sleep with. for a week or two they come right up to the front dorr singing the wares. but soon they quiet and then the bulls start their mating songs. it's must be the most relaxing sound on this earth. we have so many there is no way to single one out, try as we might.

i made a mistake one year and let family in to go frog gigging. that will never happen again.

and just a side note from the frogs, the rabbit population is incredible. our dogs used to go chase them, and now they literally come up on the decks of the house and Aussie and Rusty just lay there as if nothing new is happening.

Ambrose, I just finished a set of books by Steven Hamilton about Paradise. I thought the description of the area was the perfect place to live. Let us know if you get that coffee shop, I'll be visiting. The books do talk about Lake Superior but doesn't mention Gord at all. I liked the books enough that I bought the last one in hard cover! I'm hoping the writer realizes that the only reason that I bought the books (on advice from one of the posters here)was because I thought Gord would be spoken of and that he now writes something about him in the next book. Please let me know if Paradise really is Paradise when you get back.
