I am a workaholic and have lost track of Gord since his health issues. How is he? Where can I find his tour schedule. I assume this is the only legitimate official Gord Bulletin Board.

Thanks

Hi Warren, and welcome to our home away from home! (Sometimes away from the world! )

For tour info. go to "home" and click tour dates or any word related (I haven't been there in awhile). It should take you to his itinerary.

Good luck and again Welcome!

Welcome Newbie Warren
I take it that is not Newbie Beatty??
No this is
a. in no way an oficial bulletin board although last year we were pleased to see postings from folk at Gordon's record company (Linus Entertainment). It is to be hoped but not known for a fact however that somebody from Gordon's own company Early Morning Productions drops in from time to time.(both Gordon and EMP are known to be shall we say "sceptical" of the benefits if any that the internet could and certainly do bring to spreading the word, although Gord on occasion has talked about the "(inter)net people"
However this whole site is provided and maintained by the independant efforts of our webmaster Florian Bodenseher who lives in Vienna, Austria
This suspicious attitude led to the demise/withdrawal of the brilliant other "unofficial" GL web site:-

http://www.gordonlightfoot.com
lovingly created by Valerie L Magee.
from which we are still suffering withdrawal symptoms.
This now leaves this corfid site plus an earlier one set up by another zealous fan in PEI Canada
Wayne Francis who based his site on his series of painstakingly crafted FAQ postings to
b. the other unofficial bulletin board that he had instigated back in 1995 a fully fledged "usenet" Newsgroup alt.music.lightfoot since taken under the wings of Google groups this constitutes a huge archive of some 80,000 plus threads (it used to say how many but no longer)
Wayne's site is often shown as the web site for Gordon and is at:-
http://www.lightfoot.ca
I consider that the easiest way to access the newsgroup is via my short link:-
http://www.newsgroup.notlong.com
there are also a number of Lighftoot Yahoo groups some with fairly active but sporadic message action.
To answer your other question Warren, Gordon himself claims to be back to 98% of where he was before the aneurism and as the various complimentary concert reports indicate considered to be generally in good voice

I have another Lightfoot site, however I really don't have the time nor the energy to keep it up.

Welcome to the club by the way.

Thank you John for your very kind words. If the folks north of the border didn't appreciate my site the way I thought they should have, it is nice to know that many fans and friends felt as you do. It really means a lot to me that you would say what you did here.

FYI, my site actually pre-dated Wayne's. I first launched a two or three page version - but with basically the same look on the home page - in late April 1998. I quickly added material over the next 6 to 9 months and in early January, 1999 I started using the domain name (gordonlightfoot.com). Wayne launched his site in the Fall of 1998.

We all certainly do miss Val's website, and that includes the vast 'silent majority' out there.

OK Thanks Val for your thanks.
I am curious to know exactly which of the myriad features of Val's site are most strongly missed
as I have some ideas for the one I found most useful and whilst fully respecting her intellectual property rights I will in due course be in touch with Valerie to se what might be possible
So please those who are interested please elaborate accordingly
John Fowles
"Mine was forever and indelibly altered when I first heard "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald." An eerie and woeful tale about the sinking of an overloaded iron ore freighter in Lake Superior in 1975, the twelve-minute acoustic ballad rang with the gloomy pitch and tenor of the working-class soul. Like most of Gordon Lightfoot's lyrics, the song has the bare-bones strength of a Hemingway novel, and Lightfoot's voice is somehow woeful and comforting at the same time"

I don't know which version this reviewer was thinking of but twelve minutes is a considerable exageration methinks!!

Hi John,

I remember Valerie's website not only for the obvious dedication she demonstrated to its' content, but her warmth in welcoming new members.

That's not to say I haven't enjoyed a similar experience here, but her personal touch in responding was a wonderful demonstration in embracing and appreciating that Gordon's fans weren't necessarily limited to the northern hemisphere.

..... and Valerie, I thank you again.

Mike
