A merry crowd of 9 souls came in to the chat room last Friday
including Kyle (a.k.a. "the cromulent Chipster"-which he patiently explained was "cromulent"
from a word once used on The Simpsons and "chipster" because he worked with chips
(the micro variety, not those associated with fish)and that he was in fact born and educated in
some hick Ontarian town called Orillia.
I was pleased to meet him having discovered that he has been enterprising enough to upload a
decent bio on Gord on the mainly Lightfoot-ignorant BBC site at:- http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/alabaster/A1148159
anyway it is Friday again so for anybody keen to test Ed Mullen's bartending skills please drop
in this evening at the regular time of 9pm EST
that is 2 AM GMT for anyone feeling sleepless in the UK right Gaby??
the direct (browser) link is:- http://www.rikschatroom.shorturl.com
or if you would like to read about the benefits and an illustrated installation tutorial
on the chat client mIRC go to:- http://www.mirc.shorturl.com
Whole posting and in case I forget later I will be away next Friday so please talk among yourselves!!!

Our last chat on 31 October was modestly attended by 9 chatters. Last Friday Susan and I had a face to face chat with Melissa and Sue Lemcke and were very pleased to be the catalyst in getting these two stalwart Lightheads who are actually fairly close neighbours together for the very first time.
anyway Friday has rolled around again so this evening at 9 P.M. EST
(2 AM GMT Gaby???) we hope to see a few souls at:-

I find this quote by a particular John Fowles to be very profound at the least. Here he professes to be a Gordon Lightfoot fan, yet knows not where Orillia is? Read up on Gord's bio Mr. Fowles, you might find out a thing or two!!
tonights advert follows plus news of a fan in Orillia-wherever the heck that is!!

yes I am very particular. But I don't know where you are coming from flickchick as you have failed to even register here but have you never heard the expression "tongue in cheek"!!
Of course I know where Orillia is I have even been there and admired the Opera House
and seen the house where Gord used to live.
Not to mention nearby Christian Island

And I have a good Randy Macnally's atlas showing the famous city.
Finally If you take the trouble to check out my webringmasters page at you might spot this picture taken from a 1999 video clip:-

captioned "The Lightheads invade Orillia"
I am at the back on the extreme right with grey hair and glasses.Anyway Thank you for your caustic observation whoever you are. At least you read the advert for the chat room!!!

thanks John that was fun. Man, you guys look like you're freezing in that November picture. You are the one on the right in the back? The May pictures look more fun. Orillias' Opera House is very quaint...so are the shops down Mariposa Street (?) I am not sure if this is the correct name of the street. It is the street on the side of the Opera House. Orillia is a very nice quaint Canadian town. One thing that I did like was the cheap perfume my husband purchased at one of the shops on that street. The name of the perfume was Shi and it is not sold in the U.S., it has become one of my favorites.

Mr. Fowles
I do thank you for handing over evidence that you indeed have been to "Orillia", not that it was required though. As far as failing to register, what do you mean? I recall signing up today, and it does say member beside my name in postings, so If I am amiss of something, please do inform me, I am only as efficient as the 2 humans that programmed me!! . Thanks again, and my comments were not meant to be insulting, just a misunderstanding on my part. I feel the patriotic duty to stand up and say something, sometimes I do get myself in a bind though..:-( My apologies if I offended you in anyway, shape or form!!

Dearest John, Would it be possible for you to list the names of the Lightheads in the picture? Wish I had been there with you all, I did get there though in Sept. 2002 and I loved it. People were so nice and I loved the stores also, Gwen.

I'm pretty sure John was joking. Believe me, we all know where Orillia is, and quite a few people from this group have been there, some more than once.
Lighten up and enjoy the company of fellow Lightfoot fans.
And don't be afraid to ask questions if there's anything you'd like to know.

Cathy, you are right. Extremely deep apologies for the comments Flickchick, glad you are here.
John, A list of the folks would be good it puts faces to some of us. Cathy we all know you and the Lightfoot Tribute band and it makes the music sweeter to hear when fans interpret his musical style but, let's do something like putting together our thoughts for his music in a poem or song (I can't sing) I have been inspired to write poetry before with his inspiration, it was not about the man himself, though, so, I will take up my pen for this effort. I challenge you all to a creative event, and perhaps BS will send them to him.

John, You are right. I stand corrected and now know I don't have to return just for the cheap stuff, I can get it here. Thanks. And John, you enjoy this. Do you like Christmas Ale (I have been told it is spicy and of course ale). Sorry, I meant for you to have one for Gord today but the men in Brown said Wednesday.

Hi Gwen. I've been trying to put my appreciation for Gord and his music into lyrics for at least the last six months. The problem is, I really, really, stink when it comes to poetry or lyric writing. It sounds okay at the time, but then I go back and read it and say, "My God! This is terrible! I've just written another bad Shania Twain song!" I really wish I had the talent and passion to write songs, and who knows, maybe some day I will be moved to do so, but I would think, with everything that's happened to me in the last two years, i.e: Dad's stroke and death, my house being demolished by a truck, my 11 year old Doberman dying, my D-15 accident, the loss of two cousins to Hodgkin's Disease, if I was going to be inspired to write songs, I'd have done so by now. I guess I'll probably have to settle for playing and singing someone else's songs. But, I'll keep trying. Who knows? Maybe I can sell one of these bad country songs to Shania Twain. Sorry in advance to any Shania Twain fans. I really don't like her music.
