Not much time here, I'll explain tomorrow. These songs in this order would describe a person that is going thru hard times and is going to attempt suicide.

Endless Wire
Someone To Believe In
East Of Midnight
Shadows
Summer Side Of Life

(I have a creative imagination, and I'll have to explain more about it tomorrow, so low on time)

Alright, I'll explain how this is a story.
A shy boy is love and has bin in love for awhile. Well, life is getting a bit old, but soon it starts getting bad. That little stare game is getting to him, and he's getting depressed.(I have the imagination and creativity of a movie maker, just not the orginization) He's getting picked on and gets the feeling that girl does not like him. He also wishes he had friends to hang out with.
After a few weeks of putting up with it, he starts thinking about suicide. And he finally decides he's going to commit it. But instead of stabbing himself or shooting himself, he's going up in an airplane to crash it.(This would make a good movie, I think) And so he does. If this were a movie, and a pretty long one, these 5 songs could be used in it.

Endless Wire- Life is getting old, its the same old stuff everyday, the hussle and bussle, getting to class and all that kind of thing.

Someone To Believe In- He's getting that feeling that that girl does not like him at all, in fact, she hates him really badly,(so he thinks) but we don't know how she feels about him.

East Of Midnight- He's getting picked on by other classmates and peers and he just wants a group of people to "chill" with.

Shadows- Right before the part where he starts considering suicide.

Summer Side Of Life- The film could show him driving out to the airport to get in the plane he is planning to crash.

The boy is a lot like me, I want to learn to fly airplanes and am going to, but have not soloed yet. I am also shy, however, I am NOT planning suicide or anything like that, this is about as real as Allison in the song "Poor Little Allison". While laying in bed one night I came up with this right off the top of my head. It is purely from imagination. This would make a good movie, no?

(If it were a movie, there would need to be a 6th song after he crashed, but I can't think of one. There also might need to be an ending song.)

Music can wire you in any direction you want it to.

I remember when Eric Clapton "UNPLUGGED" came out. I cried myself to sleep for many nights listening to "NO TEARS IN HEAVEN".

But life must go on. And really, isn't that they would want us to do????

Yes, I have had my heart broken in love before; more than once. But the sweetest revenge is learning to love again. And really mean it.

Yes, it hurts. It probably always will. But there can also be happy and joyous times ahead that will soften and finally erase the blow.

I wish you the very best.

Steve,

<<Yes, I have had my heart broken in love before; more than once. But the sweetest revenge is learning to love again. And really mean it.>>

now THAT made me misty!

There's a lot of wisdom in that paragraph,
DMD3. Listen to the man.

To DMD3,

I know where you're coming from. I'm convinced there's story in the songs from Pet Sounds, in the order they are listed on the album. Boy meets girl, boy leaves girl for big city, boy is depressed and misses girl and pet, boy meets another girl, girl dumps boy, boy warns friend about getting involved with dumping girl, boy is forced to 'sell out' to make some money, boy reassesses life, boy returns home and finds that the girl he once knew is bitter and has short hair. But at the time I realized this, it's what I was going through, so obviously my experience coloured my perception. I think it's an interesting idea, but I also agree that those songs can be taken in many directions. For me, Saturday Clothes, IYCRMM and Shadows tells a short story, one which was painful for me to experience. Lightfoot is a guy who has come through the dark tunnel and into the brilliant light of love and life and there is a lot of wisdom in his words, to paraphrase one of the earlier replies in this thread. I think it would make a great movie, although very depressing, and any movie with a dozen or so Gord songs would have my $9.00! If anybody wants to see a depressing movie that's a little similar to the one DMD3 proposed, check out Werner Herzog's Stroyzcek. Guaranteed to make you think life and humanity suck! Cheers!

I changed the songs a little bit. But the first 5 are before the crash and the last 6 are afterwards. He somehow survives the crash and 'East Of Midnight' would be where he's laying in the hospital recovering.(If this were a movie, he might have crashed to make it look accidental so no one would know he was suicidal, but he survived and fortunatly/unfortunatly for him he got off). And I think you see how the ending really is when you look at the songs.
