Today I came across a magazine celebrating the Centennial of Toronto-dated November 1992.
It was put out by The Toronto Star newspaper. TITLE: The HUNDRED Heroes and Villains, Memories and Legends, A Celebration - 1892-1992. And of course on Page 88 is our own dear Lightfoot...

Now the thing that is so compelling about the photo is that when Jenney and I saw him in Toronto in January at the Tribute Shows at Hugh's Room, he was wearing the same jacket and scarf...See pic Jenney took and compare.

The man is not only the musical soul of Canada as stated in the article but he is the epitome of frugality!
lol

I also came across my 45 of the "Tears Are Not Enough" song done by the group of Canadian performers (Northern Lights) as a fundraiser for Africa back in 1985.
The little jacket the 45 comes in has signatures of all of the performers.

I have tried every way from Sunday to make the scanned image bigger. I have failed miserably....I hope you can read the text...

If you want to see the pics e-mail me: lightfootfan@rogers.com

you have great archives, char observant stuff!

he looked like he was also wearing the same maroon/burgundy sports jacket on Canadian Idol (the first night, when they introduced him ) as he had on when he sang My Love For You at the Genies years ago...i may be wrong but if not i imagine he had it taken in a touch...hey, i'm wardrobe observant too i suppose, i feel like one of those Queer Eye dudes, lol

That is certainly a gem for a song! That should have been included on Songbook.

Oh Dear Oh Dear Oh Whitby Wonder
You must have given up too easily and not only that but you also failed to show anything here or on the Newsgroup
Fortunately I got it from the complimentary email you sent out although I could not immediately think of anything remotely complimentary to say to you!!
I would have thought there is some item of bundled software that came with your scanner that would provide a modicum of easy photo/scan editing such as enlargement. No doubt I can email jj and suggest he prepares a simple tutorial including downloading the free Serif PhotoPlus4 or some other freeware program(me) with which you can wreak wonders. I put it into my MGI Photosuite and enlarged as below:-

This should be just aboot large enough to read the text-Annie??

A challenge, but I think I got it:

Gordon Lightfoot is the heart and soul of Canadian popular music. Is, not was. His popularity peaked by the late 70s when he’d written more than 500 songs, recorded by the likes of Ian and Sylvia, Peter Paul & Mary, Bob Dylan and Harry Belafonte, and had such hits as “If You Could Read My Mind,” “Sundown,” and “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.”

His annual Massey Hall concerts are legendary, selling out no less than nine nights in 1978. Record sales have dwindled since then but his importance has, if anything, only increased as he approaches his 54th birthday, November 17.

Born in Orillia, Ont., but a resident of Toronto’s Rosedale district for years, he remains a one-of-a-kind craggy Canadian ideal, something like pop’s equivalent of Tom Thomson; an artist obsessed with pinpointing exactly what we’re about, yet aware of the fleeting background.

Lightfoot is blatantly sentimental in many ways, old-fashioned and nostalgic too. Yet he rarely strikes an emotional false note.

That is no accident. Great struggle, pain and self-imposed pressure have gone into even the most artlessly simple-sounding phrases, like the heart-grabbing, slowed-down middle section of the “Canadian Railroad Trilogy” - something with the natural eloquence of a traditional folk song.

It seems as if it has been part of the country forever - like Lightfoot himself.

char, first, i'm no pro..i capture stuff digitally (images, video, audio) now so i don't really have the need to deal with scan settings or analog tranfers, etc ...BUT i do know that it's pretty much gargage in, garbage out ...if you didn't set the scan resolution high enough when you scanned then no amount of image enlarging will give you a clear (non-pixelated) blow up...you need to go and rescan (or make sure everyone has a annie-like tiny character interpreter handy, lol)

if annie has contacts, bet she's never lost them, lol

btw, i think john asked somewhere else...i don't have much luck with trial of free downloads of imaging s/w...i've got full versions of Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro and use Final Cut Pro for other tweakings, and i use about only 20% of thier functionalities!

Only one and only once and I was distraught - I'd had the same pair for 20+ years. They were a perfect fit.
