Duet with Dylan in the cards?

Monday, June 18, 2007 - 09:00
Local News - The Mariposa Folk Foundation has discussed and is considering beefing up security after they extended a formal invitation to Bob Dylan, welcoming him to visit or perhaps perform at this year's Mariposa Folk Festival.
Chris Mockler, executive director of the foundation, said the invitation "was for him to come and visit."
"But it wouldn't take us very long to allow him to play," he said.
Dylan's manager replied the same day, thanking the foundation and promising to pass the invitation to Dylan, who has gigs at Casino Rama Saturday and Sunday nights.
"That was significant, we thought," Mockler said.
The foundation and the festival organizing committee are hoping the friendship between Dylan and Sunday headliner Gordon Lightfoot, the most-recently announced performer, will better the chances of the two meeting up at the festival, which runs July 6-8 at Tudhope Park. Lightfoot told The Packet & Times yesterday there are "no plans to play together" at either the festival or Casino Rama.
Mockler hopes for a heads-up, should Dylan decide to attend.
Dylan's Saturday show at the casino begins at 9 p.m. On Sunday, he starts at 8 p.m., and Mockler hopes he'll be finished in time to wander into the Sunshine City for Lightfoot's 10 p.m. start.
Ticket sales for this year's festival are 30 per cent higher than they were at this point last year, Mockler said.
The list of scheduled performers includes Hawksley Workman, Don McLean, Susan Aglukark and Serena Ryder.

Other than for the sake of 'posterity' to the 'folk' historians and what it personally will mean to Lightfoot I really don't care if Dylan shows up..
Orillia/Mariposa = Lightfoot. That's how I like it..
lol
We shall see..we shall see..

Dylan may grace Mariposa
Date: Jun 22, 2007
Speculation continues over a potential appearance by 1960s music legend Bob Dylan at this year's Mariposa Folk Festival.
Dylan, who is scheduled to play two concerts at Casino Rama on the same weekend as the waterfront festival, was recently sent a formal invite, said Chris Mockler, executive director of the event.
"It was just a very general invitation for Bob to visit, not necessarily to play," he said Thursday.
Festival officials approached Dylan's representatives via e-mail, and received a relatively prompt response.
"They said, 'This is great. We'll pass it on to Bob and let him know about it,'" Mockler added.
That fellow folk hero Gordon Lightfoot is returning as the festival's Sunday evening headliner has only fueled speculation over a possible appearance at the park by Dylan.
The two have met in the past, and are said to share a mutual admiration for one another's work.
That much was apparent when Lightfoot, in a recent performance at St. Paul's United Church in Orillia, sang a rendition of Dylan's Ring Them Bells.
Regardless of whether Dylan graces the festival crowd with an appearance, Mockler is certain Lightfoot will visit with his old friend at some point during the weekend.
"Without question," he said. "I suspect he'll probably go to the hotel and spend some time with Bob there."
The Mariposa Folk Festival runs from July 6 to 8 at Tudhope Park.
In addition to Gordon Lightfoot, organizers have booked up-and-coming artist Hawksley Workman to headline the opening night.
Don McLean, of American Pie fame, will play on the Saturday evening.
Other scheduled performers include The Sadies, the Dixie Flyers, the Good Brothers, Jill Barber, Lance Anderson, Susan Aglukark, and Dave Gunning.
