It was in 1979, and was made available to other PBS stations, at least Maine PBS,
which is where I viewed and recorded it.
I made a DVD of the show, the sound was
not the best. And I remember Gordon telling
the audience," I just get nervous, being in a television studio, I do almost no TV at all." And when he did, 'On The High Seas,'
he told the audience this one is called,
'On The TV.'lol Funny guy that Gord!!!

Try to get a hold of Valerie Magee, I would give you her email ad, but dont have that permission, so send her a PM. She maybe can help you?

I'm afraid I don't have any more information than was already reported here. There was a Made In Chicago PBS show in 1973, and to my knowledge it was on TV. It was, I believe, the predecessor show to Soundstage. The Soundstage video you see on Ebay is indeed from the 1979 appearance. There is no official release of it, and inquiries to PBS usually bring the response that they don't have the necessary permission (or maybe that it would cost too much?). That's it for PBS appearances. Lightfoot also appeared on Midnight Special twice and Saturday Night Live once. The latter will be available soon on DVD, in a new release of the SNL first season. I have information on that at my web site on the DVDs page (last item):

Thank's Val, that pretty much wraps that whole issue up for me. I appreciate your taking the time.

This has been a fun thread... dusted off some old memeries...and for me it's a thick layer of dust!!!

Sir John, if you read this... I realized that I missed step 5 (auto resize feature) early on with the first 2 pics, I guess I was in a hurry to get to #23!(sit back and grin hugely. rest assured your efforts are not in vain!

As is mentioned in a thread on small talk titled "Midnight Special DVDS", those are available too...as a subscription. Don't know how many you have to buy before the one(s) with Gord show up at your gate though.

The 1979 Soundstage Special was shown on a lot of PBS stations. I saw it twice, years apart,(yes, the 2nd time as a rerun) on WGBH out of Boston.

Great pics Peter Bro!

Diane
I remember seeing it several times in a row, but it was 1982. I was probably a rerun then, but I remember it as 1982,as I had an old B&W TV that was my grandparents in a room I was using for sewing. I was sewing maternity clothes at the time too, could even tell you the dress! Funny how one memory triggers another.
