Hey now,
Been a Gordon fan for a long time, just recently started checking out this board. Just registered tonight. Saw somebody asking for a set list to prepare them for the upcoming Vegas show. Just got back from the show at the Grove, what used to be the Sun in Anaheim. Great show needless to say. About the 4th time seeing Gordon in the last 7 years or so. Main difference this time that it is all one set, no intermission.
Here's the song list, I'm a little bit ashamed to admit that I am not sure of the name of some songs. Where I'm not sure I have listed what was a prominent line. I'm sure you fans will figure what song I mean. I'll put quotes around what I'm most unsure of. Feel free to post corrections:

(GL says its good to be back here again, this is the 2nd stop of a 15 stop tour)

(GL says here's a couple of 12 string songs. He had played 12 string on the 1st song then switched to 6. He plays 12 string for the next 3. I didn't keep track after that.)

(GL says somethig about the next song being for David Spade)

If You Could Read My Mind
Big Blue ( 1st time I'd heard this live. I'm not certain, but I think he left out the verse about the various species being decimated. I could be wrong but I hope he didn't give in to some pressure on this. Perhaps he just forgot it tonight. Could you guys who are seeing the future shows on this tour listen for this verse and let me know? Thanks)

Thanks for the set list.
I love it when he starts out with 'Sea of Tranquility'. Sounds like you went to a great show. The inclusion of 'Big Blue' is awesome, one of my favorites.

Thanks for the post--and you did fine with all the titles! Nice to see he's doing "Drifters" again...that one sorta dropped out of the rotation for awhile I think. As for "Big Blue," he's often "edited" songs--I think mainly so he can fit more in! I remember the verse being left out when I've seen him do the song too. ("Sundown," and "Carefree Highway" are also truncated, and have been for years.) Anyway, thanks for the review! I've still gotta wait a week and a half! Argh!

Thanks a million for the setlist! 'Cotton Jenny' is certainly one he dusted off. I think I've only heard that once in the last dozen years or so....nothing against 'Tranquility' but I hope we get to hear his other opener, 'Triangle', either August 8th or 9th.

Thanks for the nice replies to my first post. I do remember thinking that a couple of other songs might have been edited, but Big Blue was the one that I was fairly sure of. I personally would just as soon here the complete songs, even if there be a couple fewer. I have seen concerts of groups like 3-Dog Night and America where they just tear through as many of their biggest hits as they can in the quickest possible time to keep the excitement level up to that of a high school pep rally. I think the audience of a GL concert is capable of savoring and appreciating a song in it's original form. In particular I think a song about whales really ought to include the line "and the killing never ends, it just goes on..."
On the other hand there is always an element of an audience who wants to hear what they know, and probably started partying a liitle too early that day, and have little patience for anything else. I was at the last CSNY concert at the Pond (right accross the freeway from the Grove). There was at least one person in the crowd who couldn't resist, when Crosby and Nash were in a really quiet part of a soft acoustic number like Guinnevere, in showing everybody in the place how long and loud they could produce a high pitched whistle. I coule have killed them, and many people expressed similar sentiments.
While there wasn't anyone that obnoxious in the audience Saturday night I think I can maybe understand the balance that an artist must try to strike. Some people who show up for a concert are first-timers who want to hear all the hits they know. Other people are hard core fans who, in truth, would love to hear a whole concert of the obscure tunes that the artist has never before done in concert. If you try to completely satisfy either group you alienate the other. So you look at this huge mass of people clapping at your coming on stage and you try to put on a good show to all.
I am a huge Gordon fan, and I think he does a wonderful balancing act. Gordon, if you ever happen to read the notes on this board, please understand that the notes above are meant as a respectful suggestion and not a beligerent demand.
