Does your husband, wife, boyfriend or girlfriend like listening to GL with you? If so...is that important to you? If your companion doesn't listen to GL, would you change that if you could? Would you get rid of a companion if he or she just couldn't get into GL?

Absolutely. My wife isn't nearly the music fan that I am but she does love Gord above all others. In fact, he is about the only oral pleasure we share. (Ahem, well, should I say the only AUDIO pleasure we share.)

Since this is a Lightfoot board I can probably say this without looking pompous But I don't know how anyone wouldn't be able to like Lightfoot!

My wife would hear GL music played in
her home as a child, however knew very
little about the man. I took her to
a concert about 12 years ago and I don't
think I converted her in to a fan, however
she was very much taken a back with his
voice and stage presence. GL is now frequently listened to around the house
by both of us.

that was a "highly esteemed dylanologist" that responded when i had some fun on the dylan forum
it shouldn't be taken in a bad way cause most dylan fans are also lightfoot fans. also gord's music is quite simple and a lot of the songs do have 3 chords (E, A and B7sus4 seem to be common in his songs).
i sort of know that person and he is a gord fan.

Any fine lady, that has any class or taste, that I spend the rest of my life with, would have to either like Gordon Lightfoot or just have tolerance for others taste in music. 'Nuff said.

1. Do you like Gordon Lightfoot?
2. Do you like Johnny Cash?
3. Do you like fast cars?
If they answer "no" to any of the above, they are gone. If they ask "who?" to the first two questions, they are gone in less than 1 nanosecond. So, the answer is yes.
If they pass the above test, they are sent to 2 psychiatrists of my choosing for a complete work-up. Any sign of any mental instability or flaw, and they are history. You can't be too careful these days.

My wife understands my Gordo frame of reference -- she is as big (if not bigger) fan of Don Henley...also one of my favorites. So we listen patiently to each other as stories are retold and obscure connections and references made.

The girl I've been seeing for the past couple of years does not like Mr. Lightfoot. It's her one and only flaw. My... passion for The Painter...is just that...Sigh.

Well as long as she doesn't loathe him, is simply indifferent - everybody's entitled to their foibles - she'll be okay. My husband, bless him, is Canadian and he tolerates my Gordness though Gord's not his cup of tea (he likes New Age, some hip hop, old disco - yech). Different strokes for different folks.

Thinking about my last response to this
topic, I'm womdering if my "mild obsession"
with GL's music had anything to do with the divorce!?!?! Could she have possibly
patronized me all those years!?!?! Who
knows, maybe Gord will write a song someday
about something like that and answer my
question!!! About the topic question at hand,
well, I guess I will have to answer this
at another time!!!!!!!
