Hi all!

If you were to buy one (your first with many to soon follow!) Gordon Lightfoot CD (best off etc.), which one would you get?

I would suggest SALUTE. I recently went out and got it on CD (it's finally been mastered and relased on CD)..I haven't heard it in a long time, and I'm struck by how solid it is from beginning to end. It's beautiful and passionate, dramatic and poetic. It shows the great man in his prime firing away with all of his gift..

Go with The Watchman's first thought. 1. Buy the new greatest hists CD! 2. Buy Don Quixote! 3-20 Buy the rest of the original albums on CD. There are 19 of them at this point, hopefully 20 when he gets rolling again. Oh and of course, pray for him.

Gord's Gold 1. That's the first Lightfoot CD I owned, and it still sees a lot of action.

Where are you from, David? You have a very Acadian name, like most of us here in Northern Maine.
By the way, I know a David Levesque, but I'm hoping you aren't him!

Why not indulge yourself and get Songbook, the boxed set? It represents GL's entire career, from 1962 to 1998, and it has a bunch of fresh out of the vault, never before released gems on it.

Thanks for all the suggestions!

I've been leaning towards a "Greatest Hits" before I inquired but now you've convinced me (literally, just got back!) to do so! Bought the "Complete Greatest Hits"; 20 original clasic hits.

And hey TheWatchman, in due time I could forsee the possibility of "buying all 19 or 20 CD's!". Someone several years ago once warned me about buying "that first Bob Dylan CD and low'n behold I did and was I glad!

Thanks for the warm welcome and just after I finnish listening to this new CD by a wonderfull (and underated!) singer/songwriter I'll let y'all know my thoughts!

I'm from the other Maine, the one that's north of Bangor. It's much different than the one that is Bangor and south. Our Maine is all forests, with farmland along the river valleys.
The Maine you're thinking of is suburb of Mass.

I love Maine! I love the rocky coast but I love the vast forested areas even better!

Oh, I'm very familiar with those towns. I live in Limestone, work in Presque Isle, and drive through Caribou to get there. When are you going to be in the area? We should meet for dinner or something.

Well, that's not good. I'm leaving on Saturday to pick Derek up in Farmington, then were going to Connecticut and New York to visit friends. I won't be back in town until Friday, September 20th.

I drive by the Convention Center every day on the way to work. Caribou isn't very big, but compared to the rest of the towns in the area, Caribou is one of the biggest. It was a much livelier town before Loring Airforce Base closed down. Now it's pretty much your average, rural town.
Well, there's not a whole lot to pick from up here for entertainment. You might want to cross the border in Limestone and go see Grand Falls, New Brunswick. As the name indicates, it's a grand falls on the St. John River. Also, in Presque Isle, there's a state park with a mountain and a lake. Not too exciting this time of year, though, as it's starting to get rather nippy up here. Make sure you bring a warm jacket. As far as wildlife goes, there's a good chance you'll see a moose. They tend to be moving around a lot this time of year. Be careful if you drive at night, as they can jump out of the woods in the blink of an eye. There have been quite a few moose/car accidents recently.
It's a fairly long drive from Bangor to Caribou. The first hour and a half is all interstate. As you enter Aroostook County, there's a scenic turn off that goes up a hill, with a beautiful view of Mt. Katahdin, the largest mountain in Maine. Once you hit Houlton, the interstate ends and you will travel quite a distance on Rt 1. It's an interesting drive though, as you'll be driving through farm land, and we're right in the midst of potato harvest. The towns along Rt 1 are very small and quaint. It's a little like stepping back in time.
I really wish you were making this trip some other time. It's not every day that another Lighthead has the courage to venture into Northern Maine. Hopefully, you'll make this trip again and we can meet up.
Oh yeah. What are you inspecting up here?

Hey !!, I'm from Portland and believe me, We feel the same way about Mass. as our fellow Mainer's so ( YES we ARE Mainer's ) We are NOT a suburb of Boston. David, you really can't go wrong with any GL selection (except maybe "Gords Gold II")
