Well hello, to my most beloved Gordon Lightfoot fans out there!
First of all I would like to wish everyone of you a very happy 2005! I certainly hope all of you had a very merry and blessed Christmas and I truly hope that 2005 will be a great year for everybody! I'll tell you friends our vacation in Sri Lanka after the 25th was ruened by that horrible horrible earth quake which took place on the 26th and we were and still are extremely devistated over all that chaos. More than thousands and thousands of people were killed in that brutal tragedy and it is so heart breaking that it affected our country, but let me tell you folks I am absolutely greatful that it didn't affect us what so ever! I'll tell you God is so good to all of us and believe me I would do absolutely anything for all those poor soles who lost their lives, their clothes, homes, loved ones etc. My holiday wasn't quite the same this time, but January 2nd will be a day to remember!!! Friends, I made my first recording in a studio in Sri Lanka and now for the first time ever, I have my own CD!!! I will be more than delighted to send anyone a copy so if you would like one you may Email me your address and I will send any of you a copy of it! I want this CD to get played on as many radio stations as possible and I want to promote it and donate it to all those who suffered in this terrible disaster.
Well, may God bless each and everyone of you and friends, I know that 2005 will be a much better one than last year! My New Years resselution for this year is to always think positive and to have God with me every single day. Love you all so much and thanks again very very much for your concern. Love your most special friend always and forever, Maheen.

It's nice to have you back, safe and sound.
Is your grandparent's house situated away from the coast? Can you tell us some of your personal experiences with this disaster? It must be very tough on the poor people who have to live with it day by day.

I'm glad to see you safely back in Canada.

Wow! What a quick reply! Thank you so very very much Cathy I appreciate it a whole lot. My grandparents live in a city called Moratua which isn't too far from Colombo and the terrible flood took place across the atlantic coastrol line. When I got up on the 26th and switched the radio on and heard the news on the BBC World Service, we were in a complete state of shock. I'll tell you Cathy I am just so relieved that we weren't affected by it all and let's hope that this sort of thing will not happen again. I just don't know how to thank my two very close friends Mich and Marcie for their concern and kindness it is very very much appreciated. I even had the opportunity to do a little interview on a Sri Lanka radio station and I talked with a very kind hoast who said that I was one of the most rarest 20 year olds out there! I'll tell you it was such a thrill going on air and talking to him.
Your friend, Maheen.

I'm glad to har from you Maheen. I am thankful you suffered none of the terrible things others did during and after the tsunami/earthquake. Where were you staying? I know the north east coast wasn't affected. Welcome home!

Maheen,

It is so comforting to hear from you. We were quite concerned as you can imagine from reading other threads and were very relieved to hear from Mitch and Marcie that you escaped any physical devistation. Although I'm sure it must be heartbreaking to have so many of your fellow countrymen not as fortunate. Everytime I watch the news, as the deathtoll increases and I see all the distruction of the various countries involved, I get a lump in my throat and my heart goes out to each and every person personally affected by this tragedy.

How wonderful that you've recorded a CD! I'm sure the process must have been somewhat therapeutic for you. Tell us a little more about it - I don't think you've mentioned your musical talents before. Do you play any instruments and did you record self penned compositions or tributes to some of your favorite songwriters or performers?

I too have a soft spot for the older country artists. The three Hanks are amoung my favorites (Hank Snow, Hank Thompson, and Hank Williams, Sr) along with Lefty Frizzell, Web Pierce and many others.

Again, it's good to have you back with us safe and sound.

Janice

Well hello Janis!
I would be more than delighted to send you a copy of my CD many many thanks indeed for such a touching reply. You'll never know how much I sincerely appreciate it. It has 17 songs on this CD and it has songs such as my favorites like Your Cheatin' Heart, Just Call Me Lonesome including three instrumentals which I know you will enjoy very much. Speaking about Hank Snow, there is a box set that I have been wanting and I would be more than happy to trade with you if this isn't a problem. I too love Hank Thompson and there is one particular album which I can't find anywhere called Goldon Country Hits which has his version of He'll Have To Go, etc.
God bless and thanks very very much. Always your true friend, Maheen.

Maheen, I would very much enjoy hearing your CD. Unfortunately I do not have the Hank Snow box set or the Hank Thompson CD you indicated. An internet search resulted in finding that there are actually two Hank Snow box sets out there and sadly, both are priced just a bit out of my budget at the moment, but which one is it that you are looking to add to your collection? I too could not find the Hank Thompson album you mentioned. No doubt it is out of print and was probably never released on CD. If you have a turntable, I will be happy to look in some of the vintage vinyl stores I frequent to see if they have the LP.

your local library should be glad to help (i wouldn't mention you are planning to dub their cd's though, lol)

Mississauga branches have some Hank Snow cd's, i'm not sure about the box sets, they take up lots of room in their bins...they have the catalogue online

seems that they only have Hank Thompson and his Brazos Valley Boys doing You are my Sunshine on a 40s collection, but i'd also like to hear him sing that other timeless classic

btw, they might even send the stuff to you if you tell them your not able to visit...i love the library(s), when i was a kid i used to fall asleep browsing encyclopedias, yeah, we didn't have Atari, lol

ps) we're very glad your safe, enjoy listening to the cbc benefit concert tonight, i'm gonna try get the east coast feed at 5pm ...hey, you should give the library a copy of your cd, that's been my $.02 to lots of artists and that's how i've also come across many hidden talents, i'm sure you are one
