according to Wayne Francis' list of unreleased songs listed on:-
http://www.lightfoot.ca/unresngs.htm
in 1995 gord performed live a ditty possibly called
"ATHABASCA LADY" with lyrics including:-
"She's my Athabasca Lady from the town of Edmonton;
though Gretzky is her hero, I am still her Number One."
the big local news around New Jersey today concerns gambling on sporting events and
"The former NHL start (Wayne Gretzky) was served with a criminal complaint Monday and will fly to New Jersey to answer the charges, say New Jersey state police."
one online report says
"Actress-wife Janet Jones was among those implicated"
New York radio was also muttering about the
"South Jersey Mob"!

could she be the "Athabasca Lady' in Gord's life some years ago??
A Google search did not confirm this but I did find that she was born in Bridgeton, Missouri

"why?????????"
As soon as I heard that Mr Gretzky's wife was implicated I remembered the unreleased song about an "Athabasca Lady" that's why
(It sounded a good idea at the time}
and Al:-
"What song does Gord mention Gretzky?"
Sorry if I confused you but I thought I clearly said it was an unreleased song :-
Yes I said:-
"list of unreleased songs"....."a ditty possibly called "ATHABASCA LADY""
OK I admit that ditty is an odd word for a song
but you cannot blaim it on not being a word used in the States
". A song; a lay; a little poem intended to be sung. ``Religious, martial, or civil ditties.'' --Milton.
And to the warbling lute soft ditties sing. --Sandys.

A vibrant rural community in which to live, work and relax, the Town of Athabasca is nestled in the picturesque Athabasca River valley, just 150 km north of Edmonton on Highway 2.
As the health, education, shopping, and service centre for the region, the Town of Athabasca and surrounding area offer something for just about everyone--nature lovers, cottagers, campers, fishermen, hunters, golf enthusiasts, history buffs, retirees, business entrepreneurs, and those seeking the pace of a small town and a rural lifestyle.
Between the years 1880 and 1914, Athabasca Landing, as the town was then called, became known as the "Gateway to the North," a jumping off point for the Peace and Athabasca trading rivers flowing to the Arctic. Today, the Town is the modern gateway to the new north country, its economic prospects, natural resource industries, tourism opportunities, natural beauty, and lifestyle choices.

John: Prior to dating American Janet Jones, I believe that Wayne dated a singer for a number of years, who I believe was from Alberta. Her name was Vickey Moss. Her brother Joey use to work for the Oilers.
I am guessing that Vickey Moss was the "ATHABASCA LADY".
I believe that Janet was from the St. Louis area. I have only recently forgiven her for taking Wayne out of Canada.

substitute the word "Inspiration" for "Athabasca", and all becomes clear.
