The fields of the hot south, are green.
(Theres been that much rain)!
Pennyless Gord...LoL... ponders...How can he win his Maiden?

Cotton Jenny's silken, blonde haired pony tail(always, with a white ribbon). Glistens in the midday heat,of the north.(Where it's supposed to rain)!
She thinks only of her master.

Will the contradictory paths of true love run smooth?

I always thought that Old Dan was a real person. Great song too!

Frank, I can vividly see the mother, father and son in "Cherokee Bend" and in "All the Lovely Ladies" I can picture these women in victorian dress, fans & pearls, etc. with the men dressed in their eveningwear like ascots and white gloves, hooking their arms through the ladies arms and walking them out of some mansion where they just had a gathering; while the singer (storyteller) watches from a dark corner, unseen by those elite he is signing about; longing to belong to the class he envies.

How about "Uncle Toad" can't you just picture that guy?? I have dogs, who definitely know what I think, and second guess me at times. Uncle toad takes on that cosmic personality of ones loved pet, who, you wonder, if they don't actually know more about life than you!!

It amazes me that Gord can make all of these characters come to life in our minds by telling us a story that he somehow has related to.

In "The Pony Man" I can only picture Gord himself being in that role. Maybe myself too because it sounds like a very noble and fun thing to be able to do. As well as magical. I picture myself more at the age of 5 and getting to be one who receives a pony. Old Dan? I can only picture some of the older men I used to see in my hometown because the records being played are 78rpm's. Cotton Jenny reminds me of Olivia Newton-John!! In Big Blue I think of the whales I saw whale-watching in San Diego on a 5th grade field trip. (Boy,say that 5 times fast! ) As for Poor Little Allison,she sounds like someone akin to Helen Keller! Think about it. The Auctioneer brings to mind those old American Express commercials with the guy that talks really fast. Uncle Toad is just that old Disney cartoon. So many characters,so little time. It's been the B! Catch ya on the flipside of Sundown!
