not long ago i was listening to my dad's cassette of GG.and while both songs sound different, if i'm not mistaken, the guitar intros sound the same in both songs. i wonder if the original recording of both songs sound the same in that sense?

Acually, Lightfoot would agree. I have a recording from Massey Hall in which he gets the two songs confused in the intro. He had to abrubtly abort the song when he realized he was signing one thing while playing another. You can hear him and the audience laughing at that point.
