I had to throw that in because there was a bobby mcgee kick going there. anyway, a personal favourite (for what i am assuming is an obvious reason) - from High and Dry - "if it wasn't for long john silver all of us pirate's would have been martyrs"

CRT Contains more profound lines than any other song I know.
"Time has no beginnings and history has no bounds".
One of how many...?
Love lost pain...
"I know I should hold no fear to Love again,
because "Love" anytime at all,
Is worth the price you pay to fall."
Fred Neal (Decembers Dream).

Frankv - the CRT is a very profound song for Canadians when you really know the history of Canada being settled by the English and French, the injustices to the native peoples, the movement west and the introduction of our own government which brought the rail line from sea to sea into fruition. My daughter studied it this year in Gr. 7 and I always had CRT running through my head as I helped her understand her lessons. The way Lightfoot captured every detail of the above mentioned things about Canada back in the 1860-1870 time period makes me believe that CRT should be printed in every Canadian history text book across this country.
Oh the song of the future has been sung....

Fezo,
Great your back.
you're my 'music taste' double!
Char,
Its a complete 7 min History song.
It could be a three part Novel or Movie in anybodys imagination!
If thats not enough, there are three different versions of it(TWIF SC GG)
Each one has its own feel.
The music is as powerful as the lyrics. That isn't always the case with narrative songs.
zzzz Its Sunday morning Folks.
(Well it is here anyway...)
Another lazy mornin'
No need to get bothered
I'll think about Monday
when Monday comes.
Frank.

I can't say that one line is better than another because there are so many great ones, but one of mine that I did not see was:
"Where are the boys in their coats of blue Who flew when their eyes were blind"
My brother was a pilot in the Air Force and I always think of him when I here this line.

I've just got back from Spain folks.
"Spanish Moss
keeps on followin' my thoughts around."
The family insisted it should be a Gord free holiday.
No music. No chat. No Net!
They couldn't stop me thinking about him though......
Who needs sun and palm trees...
Frank.

So many favorites,,...one on the lighter side I always get a smile from ,,,..."Let it now be known that throughout all of these years,,..I have been wearing polka dot underwear." and another "Light" favorite that always paints a vision that could not be better captured by Kodak,,.."and tender young snails,,as brown as the seaweed with old rusty nails.."...to even incorporate the word "snails" into a song, and in the next breath paint such a vivid vision,,,,,thats Gordon Lightfoot, our Painter, what else can be said..... Iron,,,...smiling

It is often said that a picture is worth a thousand words.
For me Gordon,s words paint a stunning picture.
A stand out lyric, for me, is:
When the wild majestic mountains stood alone against the sun. Long before the white man and long before the wheel, when the green dark forest was too silent to be real
If I spent the rest of my life in an atelier with palette and canvas, I could not paint a clearer picture than those 31 words.
Here is a Buffett line that makes me smile.
I made enough money to buy Miami, but I pissed it away so fast. Never meant to last, Never meant to last.
