I was wonderin' if any of you folks might have a favorite Terry Clements electric Gtr. riff.
I say electric only because it's overwhelllming
to not narrow it down somehow.I like the outro of Too Many CluesITR,especially about 3:55 in.
I change my mind a lot as far as 'favorite'
part or song,I'm just enjoying that one right now.

I don't know if Terry Clements plays this, and I don't know if it's considered a "riff," but my favorite electric guitar "part" on a Lightfoot track is probably also the briefest: it can be heard in the middle of the beautiful tune "Lesson In Love" from the album East Of Midnight.

An excellent question! Sorry I can't help,but it made me wonder, does anyone know what is Terry's favorite Lightfoot song to play in concert is, since I'll be seeing him at Massey on the 24th, and I'd really like to see him play something he loves!! or something that he has had a hand in creating. I did read here that he had a standing ovation, after playing "Circle is Small" which just happens to be one of my fav's. Which song should I ask him to play?

I played it on the way to 'Guitar Center' Saturday. I like to visit my future Gretsch Tennessee Rose there.

i don't consider terry much as a riffmaster - more of a soloist. But anyway, my favourite thing coming from his fingers is the solo to Dream Street Rose - just pure magic - so simple and effective. Or lets just say, all his guitar parts on Dream Street Rose (the actual song) are the best he's done on record.

It's been a while since I've read the album credits for "East of Midnight" but I believe that Gord used only Mike Heffernan and Barry Keane from his basic band for this album which was recorded in LA using a lot of resident studio players. I don't think Terry played on this album.

My favorite Terry parts are his solos in "Dream Street Rose", "Stone Cold Sober", "Shadows" and of course the extraordianary classic, "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald." Some people might be impressed with the fancy finger work he lays down on these songs. But for me its more than the notes he produces, its the sum of their parts. Terry Clements doesn't just make music when he plays his guitar, he sires emotions and that of course is what a Gordon Lightfoot song is all about.

In my circle of friends/musicians/blahblahblah/ "riff"means
line,phrase,....
I especially like Sundreme's response-the

For any ARTIST or band to put together a
cohesive sound around the essence of the SONG
i think is rare...IMHO he is not alone but
no one has done it as consistently as Lightfoot.
I found out that lol means laughing out loud.I'll get over it but i liked it better
when i thought it meant Lots of Love.
