Hey all: maybe to just give us a brief respite from all that's gone on in the last day and a half...do any of you participants on this board both smoke and run? I've been reading for quite some time that cigarettes have remained Gord's only vice yet he runs 10 miles a week. Not being a smoker or a runner..can you really run 10 miles a week and continue to smoke, or are they mutually
exclusive?

You can run and smoke. Many pro athelets smoke. For some people there reaches a point where the smoking does so much damage to the lungs that it's not possible, but if that's not the case, you can smoke and run.

I stopped smoking and started running the same day, doctor's idea, but it's worked for well over a year now. Back in the day when I was active duty USMC, almost everyone smoked and we all ran, a lot, so it can be done. I'm sure the exercise and running will prove a great benefit to Gord as he recuperates.
God bless him.

It's very possible to run & smoke--I did it for about 10 years--ran 5 miles a day, 7 days a week and smoked about a pack a day. But there was a certain point in my run everyday that I would ask myself which one I was willing to give up, because I knew that day would come when I'd have to choose.
I'm still running and quit smoking cold turkey about 12 years ago.
