Just wanted to say that it's my favorite song on "Painter Passing." Whenever Boathouse comes up I gotta crank up the volume and sing along, it's such a fun tune.
I often skip past Country Singer to get to it. Anyone else like it? My dad thought the tune was too repetitive but at least the words change each time.

I love the song. I'm sure most here like it. The minute I hear the title it starts going through my head...that sounds like a good album to have on right about now..

Yes that is a great song. It was also a good entry in the "PICTURE" that song.. thread. Took a while to guess that one. I have a lot of Lightfoot on my computer that I play while on this site. Having bacground music makes posting more interesting. Besides, what else could I play?

I really enjoyed boathouse live and even told that to Gord at Massey Hall. Some of you may have heard me. He made a few comments after I yelled out my approval. This was the concert after PPT was released. I quite enjoy Gord's fun, fast-paced songs.

You know, I hate to say it, but I'm not sure if I can remember the exact words. I just asked my wife, and she doesn't remember either.
I yelled out "I like that one Gord"
I think he said something like this: "Ya, it's got a real groove to it."

isn't that horrid? It happened to me too, when I saw him. I requested a song, I was in the front row, and he actually walked over and stood in front of me to explain why he couldn't take requests, and I only remember bits of it, and can't remember if I replied at all. I think we go on overload or something...

Boathouse is a cool tune, so I'd put it in my top half of the Painter songlist. I always listen when it has its turn.

Country Singer I liked right off the bat, but lately I'd bump it down a notch or two.

Interestingly, the other song mentioned in this thread, On Yonge Street, is my only clunker from this fine album.

I love Boathouse (definitley best played cranked way up!), and most of the songs on the album. A couple (you'll know which ones, I'm sure)are just too "country" for my tastes.

I can tell you why he doesn't take requests, was at a gig couple of months ago myself and the keyboardist and I had planned on doing what we did the week before in London because it's what we know and have practised. Then all these people started demanding we play this other stuff that we had not had a chance to practise.

Mike Heffernan has only been around for 20 years in the band and unlike the other guys in the band, he likely doesn't know all the music yet on a professional level and it wouldn't be fair to expect him to play something he doesn't know.

Nothing is worse than trying to play something you haven't had a chance to rehearse. I did ask if they could play Keeping on Yearning. GL said no.

i remember being in 5th row at the lovely old historic Sanderson Centre surrounded by many very old seniors for a healthcare benefit there

they had just finished taking in a gentle tune (Christian Island, i believe) when he suddenly broke into Boathouse (with volume unusually loud considering it was a Gord gig)...i got a big kick looking around at the hair-raising reactions

note: Gord was sick with cold and sore throat that night but, in his fashion, didn't let down the benefit crowd...actaully his scratchy voice worked really well for his Boathouse delivery, imo probably my favourite live Gord experience, i gushed all over the soundboard folks after the show

Speaking of the Sanderson Centre, it suffered some smoke and water damage during a huge fire downtown over the weekend,the buildings next to it were completely destroyed
