The northern lights were absolutely breathtaking from Minnesota last night. As I stood outside looking at them, I was trying to remember if any Lightfoot song specifically mentions them.

All I could come up with was the song "Waiting For You" and line "The breeze of North America is breathless at night."

Can anyone remember something else?

I really miss seeing the Northern Lights. They seemed so magical when I was a kid. I just couldn't image how they worked for us to see them from Minnesota when they were so far away. Then I watched Northern Exposure and Chris in the morning explained it all to me. I went to school in Cambridge and lived in Bethel. Some of my classmates live in North Branch.

Northern Lights Of Old Aberdeen

When I was a lad, a tiny wee lad
My mother said to me
Come see the Northern Lights my boy
They're bright as they can be
She called them the heavenly dancers
Merry dancers in the sky
I'll never forget, that wonderful sight
They made the heavens bright

The Northern Lights of old Aberdeen
Mean home sweet home to me
The Northern Lights of old Aberdeen
Are what I long to see
I’ve been a wanderer all of my life
And many a sight I've seen
God speed the day when l'm on my way
To my home in Aberdeen

I've wandered in many far-off lands
And travelled many a mile
I've missed the folk I cherished most
The joy of a friendly smile
It warms up the heart of a wand'rer
The clasp of a welcoming hand
To greet me when, I return
Home to my native land.

A song from my youth. Thanks for the memory.
