I hope nobody is angered by members using this forum as a bulletin board for their poetry. I wrote this one morning in Paradise Michigan while I enjoyed a morning cup of coffee and as I watched a spectacular sunrise over Whitefish Bay. I wanted to share it.
I can still remember when I heard the news
About a shipwreck in November.
I was just a boy, only six years old
I just turned six in December.
Oh the music flowed from my radio
Like raindrops from the sky.
And all I knew-was that The Fitz and her crew
For me would never die.
I listened and I heard a voice
That told me of the story.
About a ship of pride and her crew of 29
That sailed off in to glory.
Well, I found out later the voice I heard
Was A Canadian that they called Gord.
And I knew right then I had to hear it again
Was what I prayed unto the Lord.
Well the good Lord answered all my prayers
And the music just kept flowing.
And my love for the music and the man
Just kept on growing and growing.
Well I grew up strong and became a man
And my love just grew stronger.
And when Gord got ill,I prayed he had the will to live
just a little while longer.
Now I carry his music in my heart everyday
And I'm always a loyal fan.
I realize a man can't live forever
But I know that his music can.
And if i should die, I'll leave the music behind
For my children and next of kin.
And if Gord should die, ya know I will not cry
I'll play the music over and over again.
Some things seem to last forever
Like the stars up in the sky.
And Gord-believe it's true, The Fitz and you
In my heart will never die.

Thank-you for your kind comments. I am pleased that a few enjoyed it. I usually choose not to let anyone read my poetry for fear of ridicule. Thanks again.

How peaceful and inspiring that spot must have been. How wonderful that you are able to express into words what you feel and think. Thanks for sharing!
