This is a little different than a topic by Frank V about other artist's opinions of Gord and it something I am really interested in. The question for all of you is this:
Have you heard or read any interviews over the years in which the standard question was asked, "who influenced you musically?" or something similar and the artist answered "Gordon Lightfoot." I am just wondering who might have listed Gord as a major musical influence and from what eras the artists are from.

I don't remember what topic it is under, but there was a link here to an interview with gord. If I remember correctly he did mention some influences. If anyone remembers where this int. is it could probably answer YS question. Florian can you help?

Many artists have mentioned Gord as an important musical influence.
The one's that come to mind immediately are James Taylor, John Denver, Sarah Mclaughlin and Jimmy Buffet. I read a little peice recently on Duran Duran and they mention that one of their songs was inspired by GL. Surprising considering their sound and styles were so dissimilar. Also, the legendary Canadian rock band The Guess Who, recorded a tribute to Gord entitled "Lightfoot"

Hi Paul,
I've been looking through the press section on this topic, but didn't find a direct reference to the question at hand.
But personally speaking, I am sure that Gordon Lightfoot's music has influenced more artists than those who admit it.

The interview I was talking about is under the sound broadcasts post. Like I said I'm not to sure, but I think he mentions something about influences. I think he talks a little about Dylan.
