Clearwater Show

An interesting thing happened last night near the end of the 2nd set: Gord kicks into the Trilogy, does 2 verses, then starts the 3rd verse, and fumbles for the lyric, he hums a line, shakes his head kinda funny, searches the brain for the words etc., then repeats the 2nd and 3rd lines from the 2nd verse: "..As to this verdant country they came from all around.. They sailed upon her waterways and.." pauses, then says, "I think I already sang that verse!" .. and STOPS! right there.. the guys in the band come to a crawl, and then stop playing also, and the guys all sort of, look down at their shoes etc.. like they don't know quite how to respond, so they don't.. some audience members start to yell out lyrics.. and (I'm thinkin he's gonna kick in the song again from the 3rd verse but) he starts the tune (complete with guitar intro all over again) from the top!.. "..There was a time in this fair land".. etc.. I couldn't help but hold my breath when he got back to the top of the third verse, and exhaled and relaxed relieved when he pulled it off.. "..And when the young man's fancy was turning to the spring.." ..

This was my 25th show in 25 years; 6 states, 2 countries (including Massey, 2001).. Other notes of interest: The show began with 3 12-stringers: Cotton Jenny, Carefree Highway, Sea of Tranquility.. 2nd set opener: Let It Ride.. He stopped at one point and mentioned it was great to be back in Florida: "There was a time there when I thought I might never make it back to Florida." his voice cracked a little.. big round of heart-felt applause from a good and very attentive audience etc.. it was a moving moment.. Only one encore tune: EMR..

A good night in Clearwater.. on to Sarasota..

thanks for the report. A friend of mine was going to Clearwater to see Gord for the first time in about 15 years. I wonder how it hit her?

He's loosing it a bit Especially afterthe "Fall".
All that heavy drinking for so many years.
It's amazing he can still put on a great show.

Losin it a bit??I beg to differ on that one.It happens,considering the number of shows they've been doin,I think his track record is pretty darn good..I don't think the"fall" or "all the years", has anything to do with it.He's just human and it "happens".So be it.{JMHO}

Care to elaborate on that a bit, for those of us who have not noticed anything of the sort ? Guy nearly dies, spends time in a coma, now he's back on stage all over creation. Just how would that be described as 'losing it a bit' ?

Considering the number of songs he's written, and even the number that he performs at any given show, I doubt that it's a big deal that he forgets a few lyrics. In fact, I have a video tape of a performance from back in the 70s, and guess what? He forgot a few lyrics. It happens to everybody.
Most of us have a notebook of lyrics when we perform. I don't always need to look at lyrics, but it's nice to know they're there. Unfortunately, Gord doesn't have that luxury.

With all due respect, Mr. Lake, I find your comment really offensive to a man who almost died and who fought back to full strength so he might continue to perform for us.

Also I believe Al Watchman had his doubts because the picture he previously displayed

looks suspicously like the rear end of a young lady (or just possibly a young man with"hardware" missing as somebody pointed out)

I dont much care if Robby is he/she/whatever. The comment was still offensive.
