I Thought I'd post a collection of the album covers I'd done for anyone who may have missed some of the earlier ones. Might make a snappy wallpaper for your computer screen, too!

mmmm, nice job Ranger. I think my favorite is the DQ cover, or maybe Cold Hard Cash, well the Colo(u)rs of Canada one is nice too. Well I'll decide tomorrow which is the best. lol

Don Quixote is the best of them all. Sea Dogs is very cartoonish and very much looks like a spoof on two great singwriters. Hot is just plain ridiculous. Colors of Canada looks fake. His picture should be blended with the background, not just plopped there. This is could be workable, maybe. Songs Of The Old West doesn't fit Lightfoot at all. The gun, the badge and the ultra modern pic of him sitting in the basic picture frame, doesn't work because it's supposed to look rustic. Does he have any old west songs? I don't think so. Doesn't work. Cold Hard Cash doesn't make any sense. I like the name Northwind, but the retro 80's background has got to go. It has nothing to do with the theme of the made-up album.
Don Quixote is the clear winner within a bunch of good attempts. The ideas are great, but the design should tell the story. When doing these graphics, the artwork should tell all. In these cases, the album title paints the picture and you have to stretch to make the artwork work.

Good God, Byron. He's doing these for fun. Nowhere did he ever claim that he's a professional at the craft.

Well, his profile says he is a graphic designer. Does it not? When you put your work on public display, you must expect critisism. I offered an honest assesmment and even liked one of his designs. For the one's that didn't work, I offered an explanation or two, not just critisisms.

In My Defense ...
1. I have to work with photos I can scrounge off the internet. There's no photo shoot here.
2. I wanted SeaDogs to have a cartoony, lively look...after all were talikng about songs of the sea here, and Jimmy Buffett thrown in!
3. Cold Hard Cash is a tribute album to The Man In Black.
4. I realize that HOT is kinda goofy but it was my attempt at a disco album cover.
5. I am a graphic artist and I do appreciate ANY and ALL criticisms.
Thanks again!

Thanks for explaining the ideas behind your work, zoneranger. You definitely have talent. Still, Don Quixote the more I see it, the more I like it. Looks like it could be an original.

and here is an interesting official alternative LP sleeve.
This is apparently a Dutch issue and is entirely different to the usual UK issue TWIF on the cheapo "Sunset" label
see the ebay auction at:-
