In the last 20 years or so, more so in the last 15, Gord has had a flat stomach. Since the surgery, he has quite the pot belly going. Of course this is from the trauma and surgery, but I am 99.9% certain the suspenders have to do with medical issues. If you guys read past threads, it's obvious why he wears suspenders. It's basically because he has to.

Hmm... A bearded guy with a flat stomach and no suspenders? Well this is the best I can do!

Annie,
'What Not to Wear' is the one. And I love the idea of the denim shirt etc.
Now if only he had access to these ideas ...

"suspenders" what "suspenders"??
It is just possible that Gord has a predilection for braces (not suspenders)

That is one of my favorite pictures of Gord. I like his scruffy look in the 70's too though.

Oops I just asked Susan what she understands suspenders are and she confirmed that they hold up (trousers) pants.
And my trusty UK dictionary says
"braces n. Brit. A pair of straps worn over the shouilders by men for holding up the trousers. US word suspenders.
look at http://www.getshirty.com/scan/fi=pro...ort/st=db.html
Well Well you learn something every day.
Or as Winnie use to say about the fact that he had both English and American blood
"two nations divided by a common language"
I must henceforth be careful if I use the good old English expression "belts and braces" obviously.
P.S. A further thought I think that most red-blooded Englishmen would think "suspenders" is short for "suspender belt"
defined as 'A belt with suspenders hanging from it to hold up women's stockings i.e. an obsolete pre-pantythose item we once had to struggle with!!
(where "pants" of course refers solely to underpants and has nothing whatsoever to do with trousers!!!)

Nice picture. And, putting myself out on a limb here, I have to say, I like the braces/suspenders, whatever you want to call them. I think they look sweet.
I find it appealing. lol
and please, I hope to God I NEVER see him wearing a knotted neckerchief. *shudder*

Whew. I was afraid I might hit a nerve with my post, but apparently not. I love the man dearly, but ya know, everyone needs to reinvent themselves now and again.
And I too like the suspenders, and suspect they do serve a purpose these days aside from being a fashion statement.
Not so sure now about the beard. Did a little editing of one of his more recent pictures. Didn't care much for the results But I'd love to take him to a hair dresser I know in Temecula.

I still stand by my commentary about losing the suspenders---not to mention the fact that his need for suspenders can be easily replaced by feeding the guy a couple of my fresh (so-fresh-you-gotta-slap-it), home-made, juicy lasagnes....with pesto/garlic bread.
He wont need suspenders after digging into a plate or two of that stuff. LOL!

In Canada, "braces" are metal or plastic devices used by dentists to correct teeth. What is the "English" word for those?

Oh, John – Do you curl up on the floor in hysterics when our friends in NA talk about suspenders?
GL in suspenders conjures up the most awful images. It really doesn’t bear thinking about!!!
It always reminds me of Monty Python (which I thought was very popular in the US.)
Here we go (with sincere apologies to my few remaining friends in Canada.) –
The Lumberjack Song
BARBER:
I'm a lumberjack, and I'm okay.
I sleep all night and I work all day.
MOUNTIES:
He's a lumberjack, and he's okay.
He sleeps all night and he works all day.
BARBER:
I cut down trees. I eat my lunch.
I go to the lavatory.
On Wednesdays I go shoppin'
And have buttered scones for tea.
MOUNTIES:
He cuts down trees. He eats his lunch.
He goes to the lavatory.
On Wednesdays he goes shoppin'
And has buttered scones for tea.
He's a lumberjack, and he's okay.
He sleeps all night and he works all day.
BARBER:
I cut down trees. I skip and jump.
I like to press wild flowers.
I put on women's clothing
And hang around in bars.
MOUNTIES:
He cuts down trees. He skips and jumps.
He likes to press wild flowers.
He puts on women's clothing
And hangs around in bars?!
He's a lumberjack, and he's okay.
He sleeps all night and he works all day.
BARBER:
I cut down trees. I wear high heels,
Suspendies, and a bra.
I wish I'd been a girlie,
Just like my dear Papa.
MOUNTIES:
He cuts down trees. He wears high heels,
Suspendies, and a bra?!
[talking]
What's this? Wants to be a girlie?! Oh, My!
And I thought you were so rugged! Poofter!
[singing]
He's a lumberjack, and he's okay.
He sleeps all night and he works all day.
He's a lumberjack, and he's okaaaaay.
He sleeps all night and he works all day.
SM - I would be seriously impressed if you could find a gif to illustrate that!!!!

um, Sue? I don't think he can eat lasagne now. I'm pretty sure his diet is strictly regimented. But hey, I'd LOVE some of your lasagne...mmmmmmmm

Laurel,
He prefers spaghetti - and can cook it himself. So, lay off the bechemel sauce.
Bru says he likes things "hot and moist".
Can't imagine how she knows????????

No doubt silverheels/Bruna will give you all the LOW down on this:-
I searched for Silverheels erotic explanation about "Warm and Moist" and was unable to find her full version but she does allude to it in her March 19th 2001 reply to this long-winded
topic (on page 2):- http://www.corfid.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/000540-2.html
which I will reply to as it bears reading again

braces are under-rated, imo.. thumbs up
hmmm, knotted neckerchiefs? lol, never tried that (but i have worn a bolo tie, heh heh)
...i think Gordon looks terrific these days, styles included (i may be biased, as the first time i saw him live he was wearing that white jumper from EOM era, reminded me of wayne newton or elvis or evil kneivel(sp?)...i've appreciated anything ELSE he's chosen to dress in ever since...i don't mind button up shirts with those yokes but yeah, lose the embroidered (sp?) flowers especially on the jeans...one would surely get bruised and beaten wearing those fashions in these parts...save em for Casino Rama

Okay girls, we could go to the concert bearing gifts. A new item of clothing from each, no undergarments, we won't see them anyway, presumably. As many as there are of us he would get a whole new wardrobe.
