Firstly, thanks to Stationmaster for this idea!!!

If you wish to read more about why I came up with this idea, please read my post on page 4 of the thread titled "Gord's Gold III" by Stationmaster.

My new compilation by Gordon Lightfoot would be titled as my thread, "Gordon Lightfoot Forever Gold", and it would have 4 -5 cd's rather than the continuing 8+ cd's of the Gord's Gold III as suggested by Stationmaster. This is only a friendly suggestion and I am by no means saying that his idea is poor or wrong, I just want to share my own idea and why I feel it would be a better sell for our musical icon.

I would take 3 - 5 songs from each of Gord's albums that he has recorded for a toatal of 60 - 100 songs, and put them on 5 cd's. Four of the cd's would contain songs that weren't considered "hits" for Gord, yet are very listenable and recognizable songs. The other cd would indeed contain 10 - 12 of his all time greats, but not the one's that were pounded onto people such as Sundown and The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. This way, the compilation would have a real air of recognizability as well as giving those great songs that so many of his fans considered to be underrated, the recognition they finally deserve. This would give the cd set a higher selling point, not only because of the cd that would be so recognizable, but because for the simple fact that a 5 cd set would be a lot more affordable that a 9 or 10 cd set.
Got me so far? LOL Thanks.
So now it's time to become Mr. Lightfoot's music manager for his new compilation named Gordon Lightfoot Forever Gold. I'm going to present this to him and you are him.
Tell me what you think. Have fun with this folks because I might ACTUALLY send my idea to him and mention our website! NO I am NOT kidding!

Wow. That was a lot of work. An incredible amount of work. Obviously well thought out. I was glad to see Mother of A Miner's Child and Heaven Help the Devil in there, two of my personal favorites. Missed The Watchman's Gone, Apology and Long Thin Dawn though.

I can't imagine how much work that was. Seriously nice compilation Mike. I appreciate the chronological order of it as well as the song selection. Thank you for sharing it with us!
(I just got home from work and saw it for the first time)
L

ps. forgot to mention Sometimes I Don't Mind. Love that one too. There's a lot of songs I love on there, but I'm mentioning the ones that are, to me, less obvious.

excellent compilations...mother of a miner's child - love that song. i'm not one to analyze the "flow" of a record or the song placement on an album-i just accept what is. having all of the Lightfoot albums means I don't wish a compilation had "this song" or "that song" but I do like the chronological set-up here and the way SONGBOOK was done. A++

nice work

gord might say, "SongbookII already? you wait 40 years for my first one and only 4 for the second?"lol

also might say "what's Inspiration Lady doing on there? it was a single released to radio, it charted and i did a video too ...what do i have to do for a song to be considered a hit?" lol

you might pick another winner (excuse my phrasing) from Harmony instead, jmo (just my opinion) thanks again for the fun, kk
