Sorry, just like in previous posts, it's like picking the favorite between two of your children. Can't do it!!!

Oh boy! I love these songs, but I will choose Song for a Winter's Night, only because I absolutely love his earlier songs. Shadows is one of my top albums, though.

It's Song For A Winter's Night for me. One of my all time favorites.
For me, this was a much easier choice than the Don Quixote showdown.

Shadows Both songs are absolutely breath taking. But I never understood why Shadows was not a big radio hit.

Okay...I have taken the opportunity to go back and listen to both. On CD and on "Live In Reno". So,yes,I'm changing my answer.
By the ultimatley slimmest possible of margins (you do the math)I choose:
Shadows. (In my heart, they're still equal though.)

I don't find this as gut-wrenching as some of you- Shadows. The words, the music, his voice, his intensity . . . I love it.

This was a close(ish) one in my mind but I would place "Shadows" in front by the length of Barry Manilow's nose... (sorry Mousie!)

Welcome Yaz8. Came in on a rough showdown didn't you? you will love it here though.
I also love both songs and they are both fantastic in concert - but I would have to put Song for a Winter's Night ahead by a dog's hair.

Re: Showdown #13
Finally a choice between superb Gord songs instead of the recent throwaways.
SFAWN has been beautifully covered by several artists, which is some indication of the strength of the song. It is hauntingly beautiful in its melody and lyrics.
Shadows is also haunting, but I've never really felt that GORD actually felt all the emotion underlying it. Some of the emotion, but not all. It doesn't mean that the song doesn't convey that emotion tho. It does.
SFAWN is an A++ and Shadows is an A+.
SFAWN by a wisp of snow.
David
