To me, taking the albums as a whole of the man, and not of the labels he recorded under, it seems that Sundown is the hands down winner for best album/masterpiece. It has the kind of consistent strength of Billy Joel's, "The Stanger" and The Beatles, "Sgt. Pepper's", with the one slightly weak song, The List. The Stranger has, "Everybody Has A Dream" and Sgt. Pepper's has, "Fixing A Hole". But Don Quixote is an extremely special album. There's magic and inspiration there. I'm partial to IYCRMM, because it was the first one I bought. That album shows an incredible growth in maturity and songwriting skill. He was no longer the boy in For Lovin'Me and Steel Rail Blues (even though it's a fictitious song), he was the man of IYCRMM and Your Love's Return.
