I am not sure if any one saw it but the Globe and Mail had the annual Candian nation builder award. The award is based on the views of 15 editors. The winner this year was Chantal Peticlerc a disabled athlete.
Number 4 on the final ballot Gordon Lightfoot.
"Mr Lightfoot chose to make his career in Canada and many of his songs are about Canada, providing amusical reflection of our history and striggles. The past year marked an important passage for Mr. Lightfoot who bounced back from a life threatening illness to write and sing again"

They meant he chose to stay in Canada after he became famous, instead of moving to the USA as many Canadian artist of that era did.

Made his career in Canada just refers to he kept his home in Toronto while making in big world wide.
There was a time when it was viewed to make it, you have to move to New York, Nashville, L.A etc. There was a view that you could never make in the music business by staying in Canada. Paul Anka who is from Ottawa where I lived thought and perhaps did have to move to New York to make it. There are lots of other examples.

They're blue. I know what you mean, though. They do look brown in some pictures. I think it must have had something to do with the lighting.
