Well it's not exactly BILLBOARD but this past weekend, I have heard a few Lightfoot tunes on the radio.
Saturday morning, CBC RADIO, "Let It Ride", "If You Could Read My Mind", "Diamond Joe"
Sunday night, 820CHAM Hamilton Country Radio, "Carefree Highway"
Monday night, 820CHAM Hamilton Country Radio, "Inspiration Lady"
Its good to hear Gord on the air again, especially stuff from the new album.

The Saturday morning CBC broadcast was the one-hour Peterborough concert highlights. Those three songs were from the concert the night before. He also sang Inspiration Lady (and Couchiching), but the Hamilton broadcast was probably from the CD.
Diamond Joe is a Ramblin' Jack Elliott song that Lightfoot occasionally sang when he played solo. I know he played it at Rhino in the employee lunchroom when he visited around the time of the Songbook release. I had not heard it before. It's a nice song for him, which he plays with his characteristic Travis-style fingerpicking.

yeah, i think lsh didn't realize let it ride was 'live', i've never heard the cd cut it on radio either ...i got choked up hearing Gord's vocal straining during the higher sections on the live version ...kinda like in Only love would Know fashion (or End of All Time), wish i could have heard more of Couchiching cos i'll bet he sounded similar in that chorus cadence, wish they played that on CBC radio (and Insp Lady too!)
SM, AM1430 is what i listen to while doing inner garage and shed work, i must hear GL tunes 5 times a day on there... bitter green, spin spin, rainy day, ribbon darkness, insp lady (a real lot months ago) wwere played over the last few days... it may be a station geared to folks 2x my age but the dj's also to throw in GL-related comments after his songs (they just talked about how much the folks in Peterborough area are still loving Ronnie and Gord's thoughtfulness and how so much $$$ was raised, then they played Ronnie doing Home from the Forest, which is up there with John McDermott's, imo)... the problem is, there's lots of retirement home commercials and you have to listen to Gord sandwiched between Wayne Newton and Perry Como, etc, etc (oh, that sounded gross, lol)
neat link, valerie! i thought it was Dr. Phil at first but i dig Jack way more and really admire such a well rounded person
great pics there also! i'd never seen a pic of Barry Harvey before, i now realize that i've seen him quite a bit and remember getting in his way a few times, he didn't smile, lol ...keep it up Dr. Jack and Val
ps) SM, if you can stomach that CHAM mono twang, you can deal with the 1430 cheese
Gord's gonna have to do a duet with Celine (Bocelli-like) before we hear him on FM

Thanks for checking out Dr. Jack's Lightfoot page JJ! I met him online (like all the folks here), and in person at a concert in Concord, NH a couple of years ago. He writes novels and songs in his spare time, with a real life job in the biotech industry.
He has been friendly with Gord for about 30 years. Gord actually recorded one of his songs, but didn't release it. The song is "Sometimes Hearts Have To Wait". It's a really beautiful song and I can certainly hear Gord singing it. Wish I could for real! Jack does a damn good job too. There's a clip of it on his web site.

jj I will have to check out that station. There are a lot of "old" stations on the AM dial, but this is the first time I heard Gord a few times.

jj, I made an mp3 from the Real clip. Just remember that this was not made directly from the CD (my copies are in CO), so I had to make it by recording it from the mixer (that is, while it was playing). But, for a song sample, it works. Here's the link:
mp3 clip
You might want to right click and download it first, so it plays smoothly; mp3 files are much bigger than RealMedia files.
