Okay, who would like to take a stab at making a connection betwen Gordon Lightfoot and THE BAND?
(as in: Robbie Robertson, Rick Danko, Richard Manuel, Garth Hudson, and Levon Helm).

And let's not bother with the obvious Canadian connection.

R.I.P. Rick and Richard.

The Band played the 3 day Canadian "Festival Express" in 1970 along with Janis Joplin, who weeks later recorded "Me and Bobby McGee" which was earlier recorded by Gordon Lightfoot!

(and Roger Miller and Kris Kristofferson himself. :D )

Kudos to all..but still looking for a much bigger connection...!

Must now set forth a deadline...midnight (California/Vancouver time) July 27.

If nobody gets what I am looking for by this time...I will post it here; and unfortunately - forfeit the grand prize!

HINT:

Welcome back to corfidland SM where have you been??(up a branch line no doubt)
It's been so long that I have now forgotten your actual name although it is annoyingly on the tip of my tongue!
up to your usual entertaining self though I see
I immediaely thought of a terrific connection, but your wording about it not being the obvious Canadian connection put me off.
But since nobody else has yet suggested the to me very obvious connection, here goes. The Band before becoming Bob
Dylan's backing group were the original band behind a man whose hand I shook last November in Massey Hall, no less than
the famous Arkansasian rocker and general wild man Ronnie Hawkins.
Oops I was erroneously thinking he was the obvious Canadian connection

one of two Peterborough 2004 pictures from CHar that I had to display for her on an old topic at:-
http://www.corfid.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ul...c;f=1;t=002571
That topic was inspired by Gaby sending me a "hot" Gord picture to display for her. at the time I uploaded it to young Sidney
Freedman's GL homepage MSN group at:-
http://groups.msn.com/TheHomePageOfGordonLightfoot
and made a notlong URL:-
http://www.picturefromgaby.notlong.com/
which somewhat worryingly no longer works. but the picture is still on Sidney's site in my own album there so I have reuploaded it to my favourite picture hosting website at:-
http://www.imageshack.us/

And the connection?
Besides The Hawk and Gord having been friends for a long time
Gord wrote an unrecorded (by him) ditty about the Hawk's attempt to buy a Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud:-
Fortunately there is one recorded version:-

If there is anybody who has never heard this fine and very different gordsong please send me a Private message and I'll see what I can do..
I have made some space in my inbox
This has been a public philanthopic, historical and puzzling service announcement from
John Fowles Bt
P.S
as I no longer smoke sending me a cigar as a prize is taboo
P.P.S.
I mentioned Gaby who has been like Gwen Snyder until the other day conspicuous by her absence far too long
methinks another phone call to Less-ter-shire is in order!!!

You know,in that picture above,Gord kinda looks like Bruce Dern! I think he really could have played Harry Tracey, albeit a little differently.
