This is a very good topic charlene, I'll give it a try.
The man- Just a man
Gordon himself would probably say the same thing. He has a gift that he shares with all of us, but he is still just a man. He has made mistakes just like all of us, but he put them in songs.
The lyrics-haunting, beautiful,colorful
His stage performance-commanding, warm, masterfull
His effect on me-he's a calming release
I had to use four words for that one I hope you can excuse me.
His voice-A well tuned instrument
Again I had to use four words, but what the hey. This has been a touchy topic on this board for a while. I don't care what others say I feel Gord has always been in command of his vocals.
His legacy-All his songs
No matter who you are, wether you like his old stuff or new, his music will always be his legacy. Unless you are his best friend or relative your only real connection with the man is through his music. I feel that is what his goal has always been. To touch as many people as possible through songs.
Well I hope that is what your looking for Charlene. I'm sorry I have not been around much lately, but I've just been given my transfer orders. In July I leave New Orleans, and head to Jacksonville FL. After two months there I head to Pennsylvania. Nothing like military stability. So I'll be with you for the next few months then I'll be gone for awhile, but I'll be back.

I love this topic!
Gordon Lightfoot- just a man
His lyrics- soul searching, reality
His music- beautiful, soothing, calming
His stage performance- that's his gift
His effect on me- calms the spirit
His voice- like no other
His legacy- who he is
That was hard to keep to 3 words, there are so many words. Thanks for the topic.

Well Charlene I don't know how to deal with it. This will be my first major move since I've had my wife and son. Besides the Navy will do all the moving for us, all we have to do is find a house.

Charlene,
THE MAN: an ordinary man
THE LYRICS: 14 karat gold
THE MUSIC: in my fashion (HIS fashion, actually)
THE STAGE PERFORMANCE: same old obsession
THE EFFECT ON ME: something very special
THE VOICE: it's worth believin'
THE LEGACY: someone to believe in
(okay, that's four words, so I cheated just a bit -- lol)
Stay loose, eh?
LAMS
------------------
"Love and maple syrup
go together like the
sticky winds of winter
when they meet....
If you go into the forest
Gaze up through the trees
The sky is white.
You can understand
What makes the forest
Greet the man
Like a mother's only
child ..."
