Default The Music Industry & The Internet.

It's been claimed by many that the WWW has had its negative impact. But here's a couple of viewpoints which differ on it.

You might be familiar with this lady, I posted some stuff from her before.

She praises it.

Now an opposing view by a couple of Fleetwood Mac members.

What's your thought?

Wonder what Gordon thinks?

They are discussing two different aspects of the Internet, they both make a valid point.

I guess it depends on who you are. For unknowns and such, the net is a great equalizer as it gives you the same access to the market as everyone else. For old pros such as the Mac, maybe not so good as it threatens their quasi-monopoly.

My view is this. First off, this is not posted in anger or such. Just a statemnt.

There are men & women born at a certain time ,
namely the later 1/2 of a century. I'm one of those people.

Being born in 1968 of course ,I grew up with vinyl albums & 45rpms ,8 tracks and cassettes (including cassette singles) , Then CD's & CD singles.

I like record ,tape & CD players and I still even have my VHS
player ,as well as a DVD player and I still like to "go to" the movies. ...but that's where it ends for me and music & movies.

When the big chain record stores all perished in the mid to late
2000s ,it was all but over for me ,in how I'd get my music & such.

=====================================

General George S. Patton ,claimed he was "a man of a different century (or 19th century ,I forget which offnad). I am and always will be a 20th century man but only where this and a few personal subjects are concerned.

I guess I'm still bugged about the 'nets' take over of how music is recieved ,collected (etc.) but I know that nothing I or anyone ,could ever say or do ,will change that.

Then again ,no one in charge ever "asked" anyone if they'd prefer it ,they just simply went ahead did it. Only the teens & kids opinions count right?

You wont find me downloading but you will find me still going
to the record stores (used record s or local outlets that sell new & used).
====================================

Those TIME/LIFE *Starvista* CD infomercials always claim ,"You'd spend 100s of hours and dollars and never find all the songs you're looking for." .....but actually,they're wrong about finding the songs.

It may be "inconveniet" for so called 'busy people' to go to a record store but I love it. It's like the old time "big game hunters". My hunting is for the hits & the acts that go with them.

Late last year, I completed finding every top 40 hit of
the 1980s. Yes ,I kid you not ...ALL of them. 1980 to 1989.

What I felt when I reached that was ,an accomplishment. I could never get that if I downloaded each and every song and had it all done in one day.

What's the fun or challenge in that? To the younger genrration ,you can have your internet music downlaods and Youtube ,because you're meant to.

I was born when I was ,so I was meant for the things I mentioned above...you wont see me buying ,for example, a Lady Gaga or One Direction song online or in any form. I've had my musical likes and heroes already.

........and really ,that's as it should be.
