Re: Remembering Barry Harvey
Wow. That's a lot of inappropriate, misplaced rage. You really should seek mental health care.
Try to grasp the fact that when someone actually decides to share helpful info it's inappropriate and hurtful for the Moderator to ask which concert was attended (several) and that she "did not recall a report or review." No wonder so many have left this place. Had I been aware that it was mandatory to post a review I would have. But frankly - I was away from my computer and... um.... catching up with an old friend.
However, if you are an example of what's left here then I'm no longer interested and part of the mass exodus out. Continue to cling to scraps and unobtainable fantasies if you must. Enjoy.

Re: Remembering Barry Harvey
It does me good to see that my father touched so many people in his life. I thank all for the wishes directed to my family during our hardest month of the year. December. All the best to all of you.

Re: Remembering Barry Harvey
Hi Ryan,
you know how the internet can be...sorry for the upset.
I hope you and your family are doing well altho I can imagine as you say that December is an especially hard time for all of you.
We all, who ever met Barry miss him dearly.
Please ignore the b.s. in some of the posts where people seem to want to make more of things than need be and make a well intentioned thread into a thread about them.
Such are the foibles of the internet.
take care,
Char

Re: Remembering Barry Harvey
I will never forget Barry, he was cool, fun, and had a great memory. I hadn't seen him in over 3 years and he still remembered me. He was always happy to see a true fan and always made sure I got backstage to see Gordon and the guys. He once told me that "if I was at any show, to get word to him and I would always be invited to see the guys". That is something you never forget and hold dearly and with respect, and he kept true to his word. The last time I saw him was at the Mohegan Sun and he was laughing and having a good time, as he had just won a bucket of quarters on a slot machine. I like that last memory, it fits Barry. My best wishes to his family, you sure should be proud of him.

Re: Remembering Barry Harvey
I only met the man once in Jan. 2007. Outside of Gord's show that night of the 28th,here in Phoenix.
He helped me pick which albums for Gord to sign,Early Lightfoot & "Sit Down Young Stranger". (I had brought 7 or 8 albums but he told me about Gord's hand. I had forgotten.
A very nice guy.

Lest we forget- Barry Harvey
The record on my calendar for today indicates this day is the fourth anniversary of the passing of Barry Harvey, former long term manager of Gordon Lightfoot.
Many of us here remember his presence at the concerts and his efficiency at taking care of the business affairs at Early Morning Productions.
Continued condolences to his family.

Re: Lest we forget- Barry Harvey
It was Dec.4, 2011... 4 years has passed so quickly. It's still strange to look around, especially at Massey and not see him running around making sure everything was in order.
Thinking of the Harvey family this weekend...

I was going to say, I know it's Dec. 4th. Hit me like a ton of bricks. I agree Char, still odd not to see him before a concert.

Remembering Barry Harvey
It's been six years today that Barry left us. I still miss seeing him at the shows, and our chats.

Yes, sure do miss him. He was cool always, and had a great way with people. A good man all the way around. I never met a better manager. I also hope his family is doing well.

Re: Remembering Barry Harvey.
For those of you who were there, and ordered copies, the 2002 Caffe Lena Gordon Lightfoot Tribute Band Concert CDs were only possible because of Barry. I had a very agreeable phone conversation with Barry about the project.
I could have faced some hefty licensing fees if Barry hadn't just turned his head and said: "Hey, you're not selling them for a profit, let's just say we didn't talk."
A very reasonable reply from the manager of a man who guards his copyrights zealously.

Re: Remembering Barry Harvey.
What a great thread this is and thank you Ed for commenting here.
It's very nice to read comments that keep alive wonderful memories of Barry Harvey who was so closely connected to the journey and have passed on before us but still very much alive. A dedicated man he was.
May I take this opportunity also, as Ed doesn't comment here often, that Ed Mullen is a very special guy in my life.
He's the one who welcomed me into the Gordon Lightfoot family back in the days of the Google Newsgroup, "Net People" as Gord refers to us. Till that point, I thought I was alone, lost in this brilliant music, all on my own.
No apologies though, not ever, to anyone.
Fast forward here:
It wasn't until Marian from the Mountains and I got settled back to live out our "golden years" here in Toronto that I had an opportunity to view that amazing and very first "Gordon Light Tribute" concert performance at Caffe Lena in Sarasota Springs, NY.
A ton of work went into that gig and those folks traveled far and wide to make this the very first "Gordon Lightfoot Tribute" concert. Kudos to you guys!
Thanks Barry for allowing it to happen.

Re: Remembering Barry Harvey.
Amen to the above. And "special" is not a big enough word. For lots of folks, those Caffe Lena concerts were nothing short of awesome. I missed the first one, in 2002, but I was there the next year, for the return engagement. It was that weekend in Saratoga Springs, in April, 2003, that really turned my musical life around. Like so many others, I thought I was the only GL fan left, until I found those Lightheads. I'll never be able to thank Ed, Derek, Matt and Cathy enough for inspiring me, with those concerts, to move forward with music. There were other Lightheads involved in that adventure (including Lori, who was in that first LTB in 2002!), and, of course, Val, who put the thing together, but it was Ed who performed the monumental task of putting those recordings together, mixing, producing the CD's and handling the distribution to all of us and giving us a glimpse of that magical time in Saratoga Springs. That first LTB didn't have the luxury of getting together to practice in person - they did it all via email, chats, exchanging mp3's online - and then had a day and a half together to rehearse before performing 2 2-hour concerts to a packed room on Fri. and Sat. nights. It was terrific. I'll never forget it, nor ever stop wishing I could go back to that weekend and relive it all over again!
