Default LIGHTFOOT and Lanois-Habitat For Humanity fundraiser-aug.20-2014

LIGHTFOOT and Lanois joins musical lineup for Voices of Habitat
CHANTAL CHAMBERLAND

An unearthly musical experience featuring raw Canadian talent is what audience members can expect at the Voices for Habitat concert Wednesday evening.

Multiple Grammy Award-winning producer Daniel Lanois will be performing on guitar alongside Gordon Lightfoot producer and Grant Avenue Studio owner Bob Doidge, jazz vocalist Chantal Chamberland and folk singer/songwriter Caroline Wiles.

Their goal is to raise $50,000 for Hamilton's Habitat for Humanity.

"The artists we have lined up are unbelievable," said Doidge, who organized the concert. "People will be blown away by what happens on stage."

All proceeds raised will go to Habitat's building program. The charitable organization constructs affordable housing for low income families. Right now, it's working on three homes on Burton Street and four single family homes in the beach strip area.

"Habitat for Humanity is providing families a place to raise their kids properly and I think that's brilliant and worth supporting," said Doidge.

Volunteers build good quality, low-cost homes and the organization provides interest-free mortgages with a longer payment period than banks usually offer. Families are required to make payments of about 25 per cent of their income each month.

In return, they have decent and affordable accommodations they can call their own.

This is Voices for Habitat's second year raising money for the cause.

"This is an example of how the musical community gets together to make a difference and it is happening right here in Hamilton," said Paul DeCourcy, Habitat for Humanity's manager of development.

"This is proof you can build a better community without a hammer and nails," he added.

Also performing at Voices for Habitat are drummer Danny Lockwood and Gordon Lightfoot's guitarist, Carter Lancaster.

The event is taking place at the Dofasco Centre for the Arts and tickets can be obtained at the Theatre Aquarius box office. Those who make a donation will receive a tax receipt.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and music starts at 7:30. Afterwards there will be a reception and silent auction.

Doors will open 6:30pm with the concert starting at 7:30. Before the concert and during intermission guests will have the opportunity to particpate in the silent auction and 2 X 4 signing. Habitat for Humanity Hamilton provides a "hand up not a hand out" to families through our homeownership program. Through the participation of volunteers from our community we build safe, decent homes which are then sold with a no interest mortgage to our partner families. Homeownership provides a means for families to reach their potential, and provide a rich future for their children. Habitat Hamilton is a partner in the global movement that sees adequate housing as a basic human right.

its great that it's happening for a 2nd year… great stuff, Bob Doidge and all

love the Hamilton music scene … Danny Lockwood real nice guy… maybe TG will make it… seeing Carter on his own (with the harp guitar?) would be nice, and possibly some vocals too .. remember Mag Ruffman in many thing such as Road to Avonlea? … i hope it works out for many being on a Wednesday pm

thx for the heads up, char …Gord is everywhere

seeing Lanois (will Bob be there too?) and Doidge working together like old times is just fantastic… so many stories about times in Ancaster and then the genesis of Grant Ave Studio … i don't see why Mr Doidge should have a book

i have been in Bob's space a few times and he, like only a few folks in my life, was just too cool for me … i immediately thought he should have a radio show

Yeah, Doidge is a cool character ... he's always at the ready to step in on bass if Rick can't make it.

I'm hoping to go to this event.

Char. Where did that first article headline come from?
I'm in Hamilton and it doesn't seem like Lightfoot us appearing after all
I don't know if you've got this on Facebook but even though most if those fans are in USA it still might be worth clarifying. Still a great night of talent and great cause

hey char, unless a surprise guest, there was absolutely no known word on LIGHTFOOT appearing (did they mean Mer? ) …. I went right to the box office and theatre and said there had been an article about people like Lanois and Lightfoot joining the lineup … I couldn't recall, and didnt have my mobile phone data plan access, but told them it was a Spec article… maybe they meant Carter, as part of the Lightfoot act, was appearing… anyhow, will see if TG made it there… the good tix were $64… quite an electrical storm and downpour going on! I hope the concert was electrifying for the local supporter and a success!

so, did Gord cancel? they must have been in town if Carter was there

I spread the "Lightfoot and Lanois" scoop to a bunch of locals. I haven't heard from them yet but late Weds tried to send alert about misleading headline or the possibility that Gord scoop may have been venue jumping to conclusions …I'm still betting that he would show up for such a cause, if he was in the GTA

There actually was no mention of Lightfoot to begin with, apart from Carter and Doidge, so I don't think he was there.

lol, huh? I cant edit the Subject or your post… did this Chantal e-mail you with the scoop? of was it from a blog perhaps? anyhow, I tried to send a retract/caution to all

i was thinking that they informed you but then thought that they might have wanted it as a "surprise" instead, so they didnt tell the box office folks…

"LIGHTFOOT and Lanois joins musical lineup for Voices of Habitat
CHANTAL CHAMBERLAND"

it would still be a great night, just don't know why they put Lightfoot as a billing

TG, it looks like they edited the headline to "Lanois joins musical lineup for Voices of Habitat"

they couldn't do that in the old days of real newspapers (which char still has delivered and relaxes and reads, and i find refreshing!)

lol… he is likely the favourite… great for tourism

hey, the headline wasn't actually by Chantel (she was one of the artists added) - I told any family members to contact Samantha Beattie (the journalist) if they had complaints, lol…. i think they meant Lightfoot producer, not LIGHTFOOT
