Re: Mariposa 2014
Gordon Lightfoot dropped by the Estelle Klein stage at the Mariposa Folk Festival this afternoon to watch his daughter, Meredith Moon, perform at the ‘young songwriters’ session.
Mariposa Folk Festival
Lightfoot later did a surprise performance during the ‘Gordon Lightfoot Songbook’ session on the same stage.
He is expected to perform on the main stage later today.

TIM CHAISSON:
Well, halfway through my first song at the Gordon Lightfoot Songbook Stage here at Mariposa Folk Festival this is the fella I see staring back at the stage. I mader through and he actually complimented me on my version of 'For Lovin' Me'. And then he got up and sang right beside me, a career highlight for sure : )

Re: Mariposa 2014-Gordon is a surprise performer!!!
Orillia's musical legend home boy Gordon Lightfoot made a surprise appearance Saturday at 6 p.m. on the main stage at the Mariposa Folk Festival. With the sun in his eyes, he sang three songs after telling the crowd, "Reports of my death are greatly overrated." The crowd rose from the grass, pressed in for photos and clapped and cheered for Lightfoot before he left the stage. http://www.orilliapacket.com/2014/07...festival-stage

i missed any mention of the 3 songs he played … his standard solo ones?
IYCRMM, Restless, Drink Your Glasses? or Let it Ride? Tag Along? Strawberries? All the Lovely Ladies?
does anyone have a good new solo selection for a wish list? LATR? etc

Re: Mariposa 2014-Gordon is a surprise performer!!!
Very, very cool. I keep thinking about the guy who said he was singing and looked up and saw Gord and then Gord stood next to him and sang (If I remember that correctly) - what a moment that must have been!
Meredith looks great, hugging her dad. Had to think for a moment about the arm tattoo and then it hit me - moons. Meredith Moon. Duh.
Char, I seem to remember your birthday being around Mariposa time. Is it today? Yesterday? If so, Happy Birthday! If not, well, don't mind me........
Gord sure sounded great on Drink Yer Glasses. I swear, the guy seems like he's getting younger instead of older. I'll have what HE'S having......

Re: Mariposa 2014-Gordon is a surprise performer!!!
I heard THAT, JJ. Was sure looking forward to Massey this year being in May (its original presumed date) instead of Nov. Oh well, just glad we still have it.
Hey, JJ, still trying to send you an email. Any clue how I can accomplish that? Your private email box here at Corfid has been full and not accepting any new messages for, like, years. And I'm, apparently, using the wrong email addy for ya. Lemme hear from ya, OK?
(sorry for using this forum to communicate with James!)

Re: Mariposa 2014-Gordon is a surprise performer!!!
Solo selection wish list:
Bitter Green (I know, I know, capo on 3rd fret - ooooooh!)
Cold on the Shoulder (see above)
I always thought those two would be great as solos, even with capo movement. Hey, that's why they'd be good encores!
Also, a trimmed-down, solo, acoustic Anything for Love would be awesome. Use the same beat, picking pattern and tempo as Tag Along. It works. Believe me. Try it.

Re: Mariposa 2014-Gordon is a surprise performer!!!
thx for those good solo suggestions Melissa~… yeah. one doesnt need the picking solo in COTS to make it work… i think his voice could dig it also and it's been a while since i heard it live (Reno?) ….BG would sound even better if he had a crackling to his voice… good stuff… did you heard Ron Sexmsith doing AFL acoustically? you would like it and the bridge especially, imo
oh, I have cleaned up my sympatico (but not my act!) e-mail if you have tried that one … I will search archives… it has put stuff into bulk for no reason this past year

Re: Mariposa 2014-Gordon is a surprise performer!!!
Just catchin' up on much of the cool stuff that's been happening which unfortunately I had to miss out on due to "water comin' in."
With all the heavy rain we've been having lately it seems the evestroughs on our house couldn't handle it so as a result water began seeping into the recreation room of the basement which just happens to be my "man cave" and "Gord room."
I was having none of that so it kept me grounded until things eventually were under control and yesterday was the first time for a while I finally got out to play a gig at a farmer's market in the quaint little Ontario town of "Port Perry."
Gord tunes go down well in that part of the country and it was a beautiful day so needless to say I was purely in my element.
Missing out on the Mariposa Folk Festival was a bummer but there are other things to look forward to especially with the Massey shows coming up in November. Think positive Ronnie!
Big thanks to Char for all those cool pics and especially all the great work she does here.
Cheers,
RJ.
