Soccer World Cup:US advances,Aussies out
The FIFA World Cup, held every 4th year and contested by 32 qualifying nations, is the world's biggest sporting event outside the Olympics. The one being hosted by Brazil 12Jun-13Jul2014 has seen Australia eliminated early and the USA advancing to a quarter-final with Belgium on Tuesday July 1 in Salvador (5pm local time). The other quarter-finals are Brazil v Chile, Colombia v Uruguay, Netherlands v Mexico, Costa Rica v Greece, France v Nigeria, Germany v Algeria and Argentina v Switzerland. The other countries eliminated early were Cameroon, Croatia, Spain (who won the last World Cup), Japan, Ivory Coast, England, Italy, Honduras, Ecuador, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Iran, Portugal, Ghana, South Korea and Russia. The final is on Sunday July 13 in Rio de Janeiro (4pm local time).
