Gordon Lightfoot and my brother
denis.armstrong - June 5th, 2012

While speaking to Gordon Lightfoot about his two NAC concerts on June 15 & 16, Lightfoot mentioned that he missed his swanky Rosedale neighbourhood, where he had lived quietly for many years and, coincidentally, on my brother’s route.
“I bet you miss the personalized service,” I joked. “My brother, who’s a big fan of yours, used to pick up your garbage.”
“What’s his name?” Lightfoot asked.
“Matt”
“Matt?” Lightfoot said, remembering. “Matt is YOUR brother?”
He told me a long story about how he and my brother used to talk some mornings and even helped Lightfoot move some furniture.
So if Lightfoot writes a new song called “Matt”, you now know where he got the idea.

Very cool...I've seen various interviews over the past few years where Gordon mentions how much he misses that house. I wonder if there's any chance he could move back.

i think the turret overhaul was a good idea but i think he would feel it lost a bit of character when they recently opened up the enclosed porch area...my opinion anyhow

When my son Matt was little, he aspired to be a garbage man. Our garbage man, Ralph, used to let Matt push the button on the truck, and Matt would follow Ralph and the truck all the way up and down our block.

A friend once asked me, "You know your garbage man's name?"

I responded, "You mean you don't?"

It doesn't surprise me at all that Gordon knew his garbage man's name.
