Burton does Gord one better
http://arts.nationalpost.com/2011/10...me-story-here/
Burton Cummings is the only Canadian to receive 2 Walk of Fame stars. Ceremony today in Toronto/gala tonight. Burton had a fabulous concert on Thursday night at The Church of Gord..awesome show!
review @ http://www.torontosun.com/2011/09/30...g+night+in+T.O
Cummings already has a star on the Walk of Fame; The Guess Who was inducted in 2001. “To be on the Walk twice…I’ve finally done something that [Gordon] Lightfoot hasn’t done,” Cummings, the band’s lead singer and songwriter, said.
He has six Juno Awards, the Order of Canada and some 80 platinum and gold record awards for such hits as American Woman and These Eyes. “It’s a huge deal this whole thing,” he said on the red carpet. “We got one with The Guess Who eight years ago and that was a wonderful day because we got to hang out with [hockey great] Jean Beliveau all day. He was a hero of mine when I was a kid. You should have seen us. These grown men and we turned into eight-year-old kids again.”

I saw him in concert about 6 years ago. He sure sounded alot like he did when he was younger. I hope he still sounds as good. Good for him to get his own award.

Re: Burton does Gord one better
He sounds like he always has...holds the high notes, does all the vocalisations he always did..Keyboard playing is stunning. really quite remarkable the energy he has. - and he was never out of breath. amazing concert..plus he said to hell with the time limit on the show and went on for another 40 minutes.

It was great hanging out with you on concert night, Char! Soooo sorry you missed the "after-party". Burton was his charming self, and we had a great time. Next time, you'll have to stick around!

Two better...he's also maintained his "prime" voice
I wonder how many, say 60+, we can list who have done same:
Tyson until recently
Neil, both?
Willie
Stompin Tom
Simon
Taylor
Keelor. Oh sorry, still in his 50s, lol
Sounds like great fun, char. You're on a roll

We could list many who HAVEN'T maintained their voice. Meat Loaf was invited to "sing" a medley of hits at the Australian Football League Grand Final on Oct1 in front of 100,000 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (and a live TV audience of millions around the world). It was woeful.

Re: Burton does Gord one better
this is from 2009 but it's exactly like the other night. amazing vocals and keyboards. this was dedicated to his 17 year old dog TOAST who had died a few days earlier. how he got through it was remarkable. The Carpet Frogs backing him are superb. If Burton is anywhere near you in 2012 go see him. You will thank me later.
there's tons of great videos at this site..
this is from the other night - Shiny Stockings.. Burton did a few other covers-MackThe Knife, Somewhere Over The Rainbow. The camera cops were in full flight all night..This is great audio..not so great video because of them.

Re: Burton does Gord one better
That's my pal Tami's "Shiny Stockings" video - so glad she was able to capture it! I thought Mack the Knife was insanely good; hope that one makes the cut for the live album Burton has planned.
