If Children Had Wings - he has yet another new joke
If You Could Read My Mind - standing ovation for this one - Gordon recognized the band
Restless
Baby Step Back
~Introduction of The Orchestra "We lost Terry about 6 weeks ago. Left the planet. Rehearsed until 2 days before he went into the ICU." I had the impression that some people thought he just left the band & Gordon was clarifying that for them. Seemed awkward. He then introduced Carter as the new guy & a very skilled guitarist; the session man, Barry; Straw Boss Rick - "Some say he is my guardian angel, others not so sure"; and Mike on keyboards - He can play in every key."
Early Morning Rain
Song for a Winter's Night

Encore - Rainy Day People - I think they had another one in mind but this was a shouted request. A nice way to end at around 10 past 10.

It looked like a full house. Meymandi is a new hall, designed for the NC Symphony. Gordon was far less chatty than the night before, but opened up more in the second half. It seems to me that things are beginning to gel. Not the well-oiled machine of old, but the ease is coming.

Gordon said they had played 5 nights so far in this tour, and I thought to myself that I'd made 3 of them which is pretty great in my book. Not sure I'll ever get to do such a thing again. I'd Do It Again

Thanks so much, Ellen. Congrats on your new record of 3 in a row. I still just can't imagine what these guys feel every night...it will get better. Lot of new songs for Carter to remember. Thanks again for the nice write up.

It has to be incredibly tough, dealing with the fresh loss on top of the ever-increasing aggravations of travel and the usual challenges of work. And all of them are making adjustments. Last night when folks would shout out "I (or we) love you", Gordon would reply "We love the work!".

You Canadian folks have it lucky - to be able to attend several shows in row at a time without a lot of travel seems such a luxury. Hmmm, maybe I should get a passport & plan a trip...

Does it seem that Gordon is responding more to shouted requests, changing the songlist based on what people are asking for? I don't think I've ever personally seen that happen.

Hit or miss. He did Pony Man & Rainy Day People in response to the yellers, and I doubt either was planned for inclusion. People hollered out at the beginning of the show for things like Wreck & IYCRMM that he would of course include, and that's silly. People also hollered for Big Blue, Daylight Katy and others to no avail. Right now, Carter is trying to learn a big catalog of music. Like Jimmy Buffett says, everyone wants to hear that ONE SONG.

Bless Carter for learning so fast and stepping in, and bless the rest of them for carrying on.
It is nice, Ellen, that you have seen 3 of the first shows and can see how the guys are adjusting. I don't know how you aren't crying at each show. I think watching the guys would make me quite emotional. Thanks for sharing your experiences. it is helping the rest of us who can't be there.

While I'm not a request holler fan, I think Gord's vox and breathing could deliver Big Blue and the band would create a haunting live ambience (including those mood lit backdrops)

Three big cheers for you, Ellen...terrific relaying of shows to us
