R.I.P Liam Clancy

Sometimes the word "ironic" is just too.... "ironic?"

Being the sort of "lest we forget" kind of guy that I am, and at this late stage in life, it's sometimes difficult to keep on top of all that's happened over the years and that which is still happening.

There's got to be something, and maybe it's in the stars, I'm not sure, but I was just about to post a reminder on Corfid that it was on this day two years ago that Gord's manager Barry Harvey passed away as well.

The music of the Clancy Brothers was a big influence in my life and the name "Liam" was chosen for my first born son because to that influence as well.

The Clancys and Tommy Makem were big Lightfoot fans and recorded a beautiful version of "Early morning Rain."

So a moment of silence for Liam and Barry.

I thought of Barry also today. So Clancy was with the Irish Rovers? I do remember them very well.

They were both separate groups, brink.

The Rovers were known mainly for their big song "The Unicorn."

The Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem were around before The Rovers.

I remember seeing The Clancys and Tommy Makem back in my hometown province of Newfoundland in the early sixties. They also played in Massey Hall in the late sixties.

The Rovers were separate groups like Ron said..a friends uncle was in The Irish Rovers. He played the pedal steel guitar if I remember correctly.
Lots of Celtic/Irish music back then on CBC radio and TV.

geeze - we lost John Allen Cameron a while back too..Nov.2006.

Another piece of irony here is the age of both Liam Clancy and long time friend and partner, Tommy Makem were both 74 years of age when they passed on.

Also, the Irish Rovers still have a pub called "The Unicorn," located in central Toronto named of course after the song that made them big.

That song was written by Shel Silverstein, who also wrote "On Susan's Floor," (co-written with Vincent Matthews) which is on Gord's "Don Quixote" album.

Shel wrote some really cool tunes and a Google search would reveal lots of interesting stuff about him.

Am so sorry to learn of Liam Clancy's passing -appreciate you posting this. I saw him perform at the ICONS a little over a year ago.
